SPRING VALLEY, Calif. (KGTV) — A construction worker was killed in an accident at Monte Vista High School hours after the topping out of the school's new multi-use facility. According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, the accident happened just before 2 p.m.Deputies say the 30-year-old man fell from a beam attached to a 30-foot platform. Deputies and emergency responders performed first aid on the construction worker, but he later died after being taken to the hospital. A second worker was also injured and taken to the hospital, but their condition is unknown at this time, according to the school district. CA-OSHA is investigating the incident and crisis counselors will be made available at the school Thursday. The Grossmont Union High School District released the following statement after the incident: 835

Some fall sports at colleges in at least one conference will delay all competitions until September 1.The Atlantic Coast Conference announced Thursday the sports of cross country, field hockey, soccer and volleyball will delay their competitive matches for men’s and women’s teams. Typically, exhibition or non-conference games would take place in August.“The decision allows each campus to further focus on ensuring return to competition protocols are in place to facilitate the resocialization process,” the statement reads.The ACC includes Duke, Boston College, University of Notre Dame, Syracuse, Clemson University, FLorida State, University of Louisville, North Carolina State, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Pittsburgh, Virginia and Virginia Tech.The statement from the conference makes no mention of other sports, including football. Several NFL teams reported Wednesday that players had tested positive for COVID-19, putting at least three games scheduled for this weekend in jeopardy.According to ESPN and NFL Network, among those players who tested positive was Patriots CB Stephon Gilmore, the NFL's reigning Defensive Player of the Year. Gilmore played in Monday night's game against the Kansas City Chiefs, potentially spreading the virus to reigning Super Bowl champs.Gilmore's positive test comes after Patriots QB Cam Newton tested positive for the virus on Saturday. Following Newton's positive test, the NFL moved the Chiefs/Patriots game from Sunday afternoon to Monday evening. The Patriots did not leave for Kansas City until Monday morning, after a round of negative tests. Newton did not travel to Kansas City.In addition, at least one more player for the Tennessee Titans tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday morning, just hours before the team was scheduled to reopen its facility for the first time in over a week.NFL Network and ESPN both confirmed that the Titans would not reopen their facility on Wednesday following the positive test.The Titans have not practiced or met in person since last Tuesday, when several players and team employees tested positive for the virus. Since then, several more team members have also tested positive.The NFL requires multiple consecutive days of no positive tests before reopening a team facility. The Titans were set to do so on Wednesday after reporting no positive tests on Monday and Tuesday.The new positive test puts the Titans' game on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills in jeopardy. The outbreak has already forced the postponement of the team's home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, which was scheduled for last Sunday.Finally, ESPN reports that one member of the Las Vegas Raiders tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Thursday he is not sending senators home until there is a coronavirus stimulus bill that has been approved by the chamber.“The Senate is not going anywhere until we have COVID relief out the door. We're staying right here until COVID relief is out the door,” McConnell said.As far as the status of negotiations?“Conversations are still underway and making progress on the major pandemic relief package we've all been seeking for the American people. As I've been saying, families across the nation have waited far too long already for another significant dose of assistance. The legislation also would replenish funds for the Paycheck Protection Program, which helped companies affected by the pandemic make payroll.In recent days, members of Congress have pushed for 0 stimulus checks to be added to the comprehensive package.
