BEIJING, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- At the invitation of Queen Elizabeth II, President Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to Britain from Oct. 19 to Oct.23, the first such visit by a Chinese president in a decade.

"We welcome whatever that contributes to regional peace and stability, and oppose whatever that may lead to conflict and turmoil in the region," Xi said.

Addressing the State Banquet for Xi at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday evening, British Queen Elizabeth II said the United Kingdom and China have "truly a global partnership" and the president's state visit to Britain is a "defining moment" for the future of Sino-UK relations.

"The wind is very strong on the island, with heavy downpours," said a hotel owner on the island. "Local residents are still on the island, but tourists have been evacuated."

Obama paid a state visit to China in November 2014, during which they enjoyed an exceptional night stroll in the Zhongnanhai compound in central Beijing. They also met in September 2013 and in March 2014 on the sidelines of two multilateral summits.
