ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Police in Escondido have made an arrest in connection with a cold case homicide that happened in 1986.Police said at a news conference that Nathan Eugene Mathis, 62, was arrested for the 1986 murder of 75-year-old Richard Finney.According to police, Finney was stabbed more than 30 times at his apartment on November 13, 1986.The case was reopened in 2007 by a retired detective and FBI agent. After reopening the case, authorities say they were able to come up with a blood profile."We made a promise to that family several years ago that we'd do everything we could to solve the brutal slaying of their 75-year-old grandfather," said Chuck Gaylor, a cold case investigator. During the news conference, police said blood and a fingerprint found at the scene matched Mathis.Mathis was arrested after police obtained a search warrant.Finney's family says they are glad justice is finally being served. "Never thought the day would come. It's been 32 years so finally to have this happen is just fabulous! I'm just sad my mom and uncle aren't here with us because this would mean a lot to them," said Gina Curry, one of Finney's grandchildren. A preliminary hearing for Mathis is scheduled for May 3. Watch the full news conference in the player below:  1312

Fashion Weeks around Europe have looked a little different this year; usually packed runway shows are socially-distanced or virtual, and some of the clothes themselves appear to have adapted for a work-from-home lifestyle.Observers have noticed a renewed focus on detailed necklines paired with relaxed pants."This year has been all about 'waist-up dressing'. Having spent a lot of time on video conference calls, the top half of our outfit has become significantly more important than our bottom half,” said Jane McFarland, fashion director at The Sunday Times. In Prada’s show, clothes featuring their logo had it placed higher up near the collar and models were wrapped in large coats around their shoulders. In a press release accompanying their show, Prada said their line showed the “contemporary human relationship with technology.” They also said their clothes “are shaped by their utility and use, always engineered to the needs of life.”"Fashion is about reacting to reality," Miuccia Prada, head designer of Prada, told the BBC at its virtual Milan fashion show. "During lockdown, I realised how important technology is and how it is impactful for us, and in some ways, an extension of ourselves." 1214

Federal agents arrested two Mexican nationals and a Cleveland man after more than 140 pounds of methamphetamine was seized in Boston Heights — believed to be the largest seizure of meth in Ohio's history.Tyrone Rogers, 36, of Cleveland, Hector Manuel Ramos-Nevarez, 26, and Gilbert Treviso-Garcia, 24, both of Mexico, have been charged with conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute methamphetamine.Investigators seized 82 pounds of crystal meth and 60 pounds of liquid meth from a warehouse near the in Boston Heights, a city with a population of 1,300, located in suburban Cleveland."It's incredibly dangerous," said U.S. Attorney Justin Herdman. "Narcotics themselves are dangerous, but also keep in mind, those narcotics were there to be processed.Rogers picked up Nevarez and Treviso at La Quinta Inn in Macedonia, Ohio last month, according to authorities.According to the Department of Justice, Rogers drove the two men several times between a house in Aurora and a nearby warehouse. The warehouse where the drugs were seized appeared to be used as a processing facility to produce, package and distribute the drugs, according to the authorities.Investigators listened to several phone conversations about who had "broken into" the location. Rogers and others believed it was an inside person who robbed them, according to court documents.Investigators intercepted telephone calls in which Rogers got the "green light" (believed to from his Mexican supplier to kill the person Rogers believed stole his drugs."It's very concerning and it illustrates what we already know, which is that drug trafficking organizations tend to be violent, that people will use violence and the threat of violence in order to make a profit," Herdman said. 1764

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) — For Brian Masters, the prospect of owning two vintage John Deere tractors was an easy sell."I’ve always had an interest," Masters said of the tractors. And when his friend recently approached him to buy her two 1932 and 1946 model tractors, he jumped at the chance. After purchasing the tractors in July, he displayed them in his front yard with plans to have them running by this summer. But it wasn't until this month that he was slapped with a code enforcement violation by the City of Escondido."I parked them out there in late July and all of a sudden someone complained about me," Master said. "When I tried to talk to the enforcement officer, he just said they have to be out of public view."The code violation referenced "Sec. 33-96: Prohibited primary uses and structures" of the city code. The ordinance says, "All industrial, commercial and residential uses and structures not listed in this article are prohibited."Masters said he tried to speak with an enforcement officer about taking two weeks to move the machines, but was told he needed to move the tractors immediately — a tight timeline made all the more difficult when Masters believed his antiques were welcomed."At Halloween, we had a line of people posing and taking pictures with them," Masters said. "I don’t know who is complaining ... They were the centerpieces of our yard, it’s a little front yard."Masters said he is in the process of moving the classic tractors to his backyard. But in order to do so, he says he had to hack off a tree stump, modify his fence, and take down a portion of his yard's retaining yard to give the tractors enough room to be moved.10News has reached out to the City of Escondido for possible alternatives or a solution to Masters' violation, and have yet to hear back. 1815
