Facebook announced on Tuesday that it would no longer accept ads that discourage people from getting vaccinated onto its social media platform.In a press release, Facebook said they were launching a campaign to give its users useful information regarding vaccines and keep them safe and healthy during the pandemic.The social media company said Tuesday that they would roll out the ad ban in the "next few days.""Today, we're launching a new global policy that prohibits ads discouraging people from getting vaccinated. We don't want these ads on our platforms," Kang-Xing Jin, Facebook's head of health, and Rob Leathern, a Facebook director of product management, wrote in a blog post.Along with the ad ban, Facebook also launched an initiative that'll include new flu product features that provide additional vaccine-related content and work with global health partners on campaigns to increase immunization rates.Ads are still allowed if they advocate for or against legislation or government policies around vaccines – including a COVID-19 vaccine, Facebook said.Facebook also said it would be rolling out the ad ban in the coming days. 1149

Families may be putting off eye exams over COVID-19 concerns, but one mom in Florida says keeping an eye out for warning signs is crucial right now as eye doctors adapt to keep kids safe and rebound after extra time at home.Toddlers tend to fall when they're learning how to walk. Just like Erin Miller's daughter."My daughter was 15 months old," said Miller. "She seems to be falling a lot."So they took her to a free public vision screening put on by For Eye Care Foundation on Florida's east coast."She was screened by Dr. Cano and he gave my mom a printout and said that there were some red flags," Miller said.Turns out, she's nearsighted in one eye but farsighted in the other.It's called amblyopia, or lazy eye. It's a condition that can lead to permanent damage if not caught early."If we can screen these children before their eyes mature they can be treated and prevent visual loss," said Dr. Cano.That's why Dr. Cano says you shouldn't put off a visit to the eye doctor because of the pandemic. There are tools available to keep kids safe."One of the nice devices that we use, which I happen to have with me, is this device," Cano said. "It allows us to be over six feet away from the child."Keeping social distance while keeping eyes healthy, Florida Society of Ophthalmology also offers resources for quick and easy at-home vision tests to help parents and guardians whose children might be spending more time at home.Miller's daughter is two now and doing just fine with her glasses, and they're grateful to have caught the issue early."Incredibly grateful," said Miller. "I'm a special educator. ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) - A North County woman says she was scammed at a gas station by a performance 'worthy of an Oscar.'"We pull in and my husbands about to pump in the gas," said Alice. An ordinary trip to fill up turned eventful last month at the Shell gas station on Santa Fe Drive. "I see a man pull up in a black SUV, brand new and shiny," said Alice. Alice says a man in his 30s got out of the GMC Yukon and approached them."He was in head-to-toe designer clothes," said Alice. In the backseat was a well-dressed woman and a little girl."He says, 'Excuse me, Sir. I'm here vacationing from Dubai with my family and my wallet was stolen,'" said Alice. The man asked for some money for gas and then took out a ring."Here, take my ring. It's worth 0. I have money and plenty of jewelry at home. I just need money for gas and food," said Alice.Alice told the man to keep the ring and then had her husband put in on a pump with their credit card."I believed their story ... I put myself in their shoes. I would be devastated, and I would want someone to help me," said Alice.Days later, she learned from her cousin in Los Angeles those strangers were scammers. "I was the 4th person she knew of personally that this happened to. I was duped," said Alice."Then this past Wednesday, Alice was back at the gas station and filling up, when she saw something familiar," said Alice.It was another new GMC Yukon. Inside was a different family. She saw them talking with a young man, before pulling out a ring. "I ran over put my hand in front of the guy and said, 'You should be ashamed of yourself. This is a scam!" said Alice. She learned the family had a similar story about vacationing from Dubai. The SUV sped off, leaving behind a woman hoping others don't fall victim."It makes me angry. It's the giving season and they take advantage of that. They're actors. They played their part perfectly. They're going to get an Oscars, and I handed them the award," said Alice.Alice believes both vehicles had out-of-state license plates. She says she contacted the sheriff's department but was told this incident would likely be defined as panhandling, which isn't a crime. 2184
