Prominent tech investor Steve Jurvetson is denying the misconduct allegations against him.In a lengthy Facebook post, Jurvetson said the reason for his departure from the venture capital firm he co-founded on Monday had nothing to do with "sexual predation" or "workplace harassment.""How does one respond to accusations so serious that being innocent is not a good enough defense?" he wrote. "Let me be clear: no such allegations are true."Jurvetson, 50, was a partner at prominent VC firm Draper Fisher Jurvetson. He is also a board member and investor at Tesla and SpaceX, but as of Monday, he's currently on leave.According to Jurvetson, he left the firm "because of interpersonal dynamics with my partners" and "stress."In October, DFJ said it became aware of "indirect and second-hand allegations" about Jurvetson. The company launched an independent investigation, but it did not provide details on the allegations of misconduct."It is excruciating to learn just how quickly, in one news cycle, people conclude that because I have left DFJ there must be some credence to vicious and wholly false allegations about sexual predation and workplace harassment," wrote Jurvetson.He clarified that the DFJ investigation "began not with a complaint, but with unsubstantiated rumors."Jurvetson's departure comes on the heels of other investor resignations over misconduct allegations. 500 Startups cofounder Dave McClure and Binary Capital cofounder Justin Caldbeck left their respective firms this summer after multiple women came forward with allegations of workplace sexual harassment. President Trump has signed the Music Modernization Act into law, a bill that will bring sweeping changes to the way music is licensed and songwriters are paid.Supporters say the Music Modernization Act, championed by Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tennessee), will ensure that songwriters get paid fairly for their work in the streaming age. A key aspect of the legislation is the creation of a new independent entity that will license songs to companies that play music online. The group will then pay songwriters, while digital streaming services, like Spotify or Pandora, can ask for a blanket license. This is the first overhaul to music copyright law in decades. The law will also make sure artists who made music prior to 1972 are paid.Recording artists didn't have any copyright rights in their works until 1972. PUEBLO, Colo. — A white supremacist accused of plotting to bomb the Temple Emanuel synagogue in Pueblo last year pleaded guilty to federal hate crime and explosives charges Thursday morning, according to court documents.Richard Holzer pleaded guilty to charges on Thursday that he attempted to obstruct others from exercising religious beliefs through force and that he attempted to destroy a building used in "interstate commerce."Holzer was arrested Nov. 1, 2019, after he met up with three undercover FBI agents in an attempt to bomb Temple Emanuel in Pueblo, Colorado as part of what he called a "racial holy war" and to wipe the synagogue "off the map" in what the FBI said amounted to "domestic terrorism."An undercover agent began talking to Holzer on Facebook in September 2019 after investigators say he promoted white supremacy and violence on several accounts. Holzer pleaded not guilty in November 2019 to a three-count indictment submitted by a grand jury.Holzer's sentencing is set for Jan. 20. Retail experts say 3,000 stores have closed just this year. It's a vicious cycle, with more people shopping online, more stores close. And malls take a hit with stores closing."If it's a three-anchor store and two anchors close, then you're probably done," explains real estate expert Greg Maloney.Maloney says don’t be fooled though. He says malls aren't dying, instead, they are reinventing themselves. "We need to make the shopping experience a lot more exciting," he says.Just like it was in the 80s, the movie theater at malls made a comeback to get people in the doors.There's a mall in Nashville, Tennessee that opened a Madame Tussaud wax museum to attract shoppers. In providence, Rhode Island turned the second level into apartments to really keep people from leaving.With mall reinventing themselves, Maloney says you’ll really notice change at the department stores. "I don't think they will completely go away, but I think they will be downsized,” Maloney says. “They will be smaller and fewer of them.”As for vacant spots in malls: get ready to see more online stores like Bonobos, UNTUCKit and Amazon open up brick and mortar stores, allowing shoppers to have the best of both worlds. 1381
