A Chinese court has banned the sale and import of most iPhone models in a stunning decision sure to escalate the nasty trade war between the United States and China.The ban does not cover the new iPhone XS, iPhone XS Plus or iPhone XR, which were not yet available when Qualcomm filed its lawsuit. The phones covered by the ban make up about 10% to 15% of current iPhone sales in China, according to Daniel Ives, analyst at Wedbush Securities.The court granted a pair of preliminary injunctions requested by Qualcomm, an American microchip maker. Qualcomm claims that Apple violates two of its patents in the iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X. The patents allow people to edit and resize photos on a phone and to manage apps by using a touchscreen, according to Qualcomm.The practical effect of the injunction is not yet clear. A historic and disproportionate number of women have left the workforce since the start of the pandemic, and new studies are showing many more are still considering downshifting their career.“I had just found another position that I was going to start part-time in addition to the one I had, and I was hoping to build my career with that,” said Ashley Stewart in Virginia.Stewart is a mother of three young children, who at the beginning of the year was hoping to transition to full-time work as an occupational therapist. However, when the pandemic hit, she had to reevaluate what was best for her family.“I switched to doing just a couple of virtual sessions on my computer during the week,” said Stewart. "It ended up that it was just too much to handle here, with the kids screaming in the background or climbing on me while I am trying, so I ended up stopping altogether.”It was a bittersweet decision. She was sad to halt a blossoming career, but grateful her family could afford to make that decision. She felt it was safer for her children and worth the sacrifice on her end. Stewart’s decision has become a common one for women across the country. The latest data from the Department of Labor shows that between August and September, 865,000 women dropped out of the labor force, compared to 216,000 men. That is essentially women dropping out of the workforce four time faster than men.“The number of women who have left is startling,” said C. Nicole Mason. “Because at the beginning of the year, we were celebrating the fact that women were 50% of the workforce, so we have lost significant gains since then.”Mason is the president and CEO of the Institute for Women’s Policy Research.“We can draw the direct line between the lack of childcare and daycare closures to women exiting,” said Mason.Experts, like Mason, are concerned a decade or more of women’s equality and progress in the workforce could be erased, if women continue to drop out of the labor force at this rate.“Employers have a role to play by making sure workplace policies are flexible, providing access to childcare,” said Mason. “The federal government has a role to play by instituting a national care infrastructure that will do more to keep women in the workforce by making sure they have childcare and other supports."Many companies have begun to offer more flexibility during the pandemic, but the data indicates more may need to be done. In terms of government responding to this disproportionate loss of women in the workforce, the childcare industry has been calling on Congress for funding for weeks. The industry’s plea is not only to save providers but to support women needing their service to go back to work. A Florida man is accused of attacking a Volusia County ambulance crew on the way to the hospital Sunday night.The paramedics told deputies that the suspect, David W. Parsons, 33, had been belligerent throughout the evening. The paramedic who was driving the ambulance said he looked in the rear-view mirror and saw Parsons getting off the stretcher and attacking the paramedic riding in the back.The ambulance driver said he pulled over, opened the back door and found Parsons with the paramedic in a choke hold.The driver said he then put Parsons in a choke hold until he released the other paramedic. Deputies said the altercation then spilled out of the ambulance.The sheriff's office said Parsons then attempted to run at them and into oncoming traffic, where the altercation continued.Deputy Micah Stoltz arrived and found Parsons putting a paramedic in a choke hold on the side of the road. The suspect was straddling one paramedic while the other was trying to pull him off.Stoltz had to use his stun gun after repeated commands to let go of the paramedic.The paramedics were in good condition after the attack and scuffle.Parsons was later medically cleared at Florida Hospital DeLand before being transported to the Volusia County Jail. A day after indicating a formal NFL request for information on an alleged physical assault involving star running back Kareem Hunt didn't occur until last week, Cleveland police said Wednesday the league was given a copy of the police report in February.The report did not go through the official public records request process, police said on their website. Instead, a member of the Cleveland Division of Police gave the report to an NFL representative.On Tuesday, police had said the league didn't make a formal request for records or body camera video until Friday.The NFL, which was harshly criticized for its handling and investigation of an assault in 2014 by former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice, countered that it began looking into the February 10 incident involving Hunt days after it occurred.An NFL spokesman said Tuesday the league had requested information in February from the police and from the hotel where the event occurred.Hotel surveillance video posted Friday by TMZ shows the now-free agent kicking and shoving a woman in a late-night altercation outside a Cleveland hotel. The same day the video was posted, the Kansas City Chiefs waived Hunt, who led the NFL in rushing last season, and the league placed him on the commissioner's exempt list, meaning he cannot participate in any football activities until the NFL investigation is complete.Police didn't file charges in the case."In these instances, the victim is referred to the city prosecutor to file a misdemeanor charge," police said.Hunt admitted to ESPN in an interview aired Sunday that he acted inappropriately in February."Honestly, I never met the girl before besides that one time," he recalled.
