BEIJING, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie returned to Beijing Wednesday afternoon after a four-day visit to Vietnam.During his stay in Hanoi, Liang attended the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Defense Ministers' Meeting Plus, where he elaborated on China's defense policy and proposals on regional security cooperation.On the sidelines of the meeting, Liang met with defense chiefs from several countries.During the visit to Vietnam, Liang met with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nong Duc Manh and Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung,respectively.Liang also held talks with Vietnamese Defense Minister Phung Quang Thanh.Liang's entourage also came back to Beijing.

UNITED NATIONS, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- China on Friday voiced its hope that the upcoming summit of the Group of 20 largest economies (G20) will help achieve positive efforts that include the efforts to strengthen the institution building, enhance market confidence around the world and accelerate the recovery of the world economy.The statement came as Li Baodong, the Chinese permanent representative to the United Nations, was speaking at the informal meeting of the UN General Assembly on the upcoming G20 summit in Seoul, the capital of the Republic of Korea (ROK)."China hopes that the Seoul summit will, in the spirit of mutual benefit and win-win outcome on the basis of implementation of the outcomes of previous G20 summit, achieve the following positive results: First, strengthen the institution building of the G20, enhance market confidence around the world, and accelerate the recovery of the world economy," Li said."Second, complete the IMF's share reform before the summit and fulfill the commitments made by the G20 leaders," he said. "Third, address the imbalance in development issues, so as to provide political support to the early realization of the MDGs," the eight anti-poverty targets to be reached by 2015. BRUSSELS, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Wednesday urged European political and business leaders not to join the "chorus" on pressuring China on the appreciation of the Renminbi, or RMB.China's trade surplus was explained by the specific structures of the economies involved in international trade instead of the exchange rate of the RMB, Wen said at the Sixth China-EU Business Summit here."The (past) appreciations of the RMB did not lead to any changes in the trend (of China recording trade surplus)," Wen said, referring to the fact that China continued to record trade surpluses after it initiated an exchange rate reform in 1994 although the RMB has appreciated by an accumulated 55 percent since then. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao addresses the 6th China-European Union Business Summit in Brussels, capital of Belgium, Oct. 6, 2010.China also continued to record trade surpluses against the United States after it initiated a second exchange rate reform in 2005 to allow the RMB to appreciate 22 percent against the U.S. dollar since then, Wen said."The trade issue should not be politicized.
