SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Local family members are reacting to the news that the bodies of two San Diegans who went missing in Mexico have reportedly been found in a well in Baja, California.According to the Associated Press, the Baja California state prosecutor’s office said in a statement that 78-year-old Ian Hirschsohn and 73-year-old Kathy Harvey were discovered in a well, south of Ensenada, Mexico.On Tuesday, the U.S. State Department sent ABC10 News the following statement: “The U.S. Department of State's top priority is the safety and security of U.S. citizens. We are aware of reports that local authorities have discovered the remains of two people near San Quintin and are closely monitoring their ongoing investigation.”On Tuesday, ABC10 News spoke to Hirschsohn's son-in-law over the phone. He said that family members are not yet ready to go on-camera but they want viewers to know what a senseless tragedy this is. They’re trying to accept the reality that Hirschsohn and Harvey may have been murdered but they’re yet entirely convinced that the bodies found are those of the retired couple. However, San Diego Police confirmed Tuesday that positive identification was made.“He went to Mexico a lot. I'd say he went down at least every couple of months,” Hirschsohn’s Solana Beach neighbor and friend Jim Dietz told ABC10 News on Tuesday. He described Hirschsohn has a highly-intelligent, active and well-traveled man. Those words were echoed by his son-in-law.“He was a real gentleman. He wouldn't say an unkind word about anybody,” said Dietz who added, “I feel very bad for [his kids] because they lost their mother a few years ago and now they lose their father in this kind of a tragic way. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – James Prince, the owner of a recycling center in Point Loma, went to the Peninsula Community Planning Board Thursday night to try and save his business.Prince Recycling is being evicted from his location on the property of the Stump’s Family Market Place.Prince Recycling has become a controversial business in the past one or two years.  It is the only recycling center in the area, but many neighbors have started complaining that it is bringing homeless problems to the area.Dirk Stump, the owner of the grocery store, confirmed he is evicting the recycling center, ending their agreement for the past five years. The area is required to have a recycling center, and Dirk says the state could fine him more than ,000 a year for cutting ties with recycling, but at this point, he is willing to pay, because he says the center is attracting homeless and chasing away customers.  He said Mr. Prince is a good person and it was purely a business decision.“I recycle thousands of tons of material, and it’s not just from homeless,” Prince said.  “Not only that, they’re people too. What am I supposed to do? You’re homeless you can’t come in?” The planning board did not take any action on the issue. Prince says he’s not making any plans to vacate. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Mariah Sunshine Coogan's family says she lived up to her middle name. "She would walk into a room, and she would just light it up," her mother, Stacey Coogan, told 10News. The 23-year-old died Monday night when a plane carrying her and six others crashed in Scottsdale, Arizona. The Piper PA24 plane crashed at around 8:45 p.m. local time, shortly after it took off from the Scottsdale Airport.RELATED:  445

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - It's rattlesnake season year-round in San Diego but now is the time they come out in full force due to warmer temperatures.San Diego Animal Services says the number of urban sightings this April is higher than this time last year, 94 versus 87. However, for the whole year, sightings are down compared to 2017.Rangers at the Mission Trails Regional Park say hikers should not panic if they see a rattlesnake on the trail. They even recommend taking a picture if you're a safe distance away.RELATED: What to do in the event of a rattlesnake biteRattlesnakes common throughout Mission Trails are the Southern Pacific and Red Diamond. Each can be several feet long and can strike about half their body length.Hiker and volunteer guide Daryel Stager recently spotted a five-foot Red Diamond rattlesnake eating a possum."I thought it was pretty cool, I don't usually see them with prey they've killed," said Stager. "They want to be left alone and get some rays - like going to the beach."Experts recommend keeping dogs leashed so that they do not startle a rattlesnake off the trail.  1112

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Jurors have reached their verdict in the trial of a man accused of killing a Navy sailor on a Logan Heights freeway ramp in 2018.Edson Acuna, 26, was found guilty of first-degree murder, robbery, and several other charges in connection with the murder of 21-year-old Curtis Adams on Oct. 27, 2018. Adams was driving on I-15 at about 2 a.m., when he came upon what appeared to be a disabled vehicle. As Adams got out of his vehicle to check on the car's occupants when he was shot.Prosecutors say Acuna and three others had burglarized a Mt. Hope home that night, before getting into a shootout with the home's residents. As they fled, one of their vehicle's tires were shot out. At the time of his death, he worked as a steelworker with Amphibious Construction Battalion 1 at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado.Acuna was also found guilty of burglary, possession of firearm by a felon, transporting assault weapon, possession of assault weapon, prohibited person holding or possessing ammunition, and carrying loaded firearm in a vehicle. He was found not guilty of shooting at an inhabited structure, building or aircraft.He's set to be sentenced to life imprisonment without parole on April 10. 1965
