BEIJING, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- The U.S.-China relationship was the most complex and important relationship in the world, U.S. Ambassador to China Jon Huntsman said on Tuesday."It is the most complex and important relationship in the world today with many facets of relationship and many points of connection between the United States and China," Huntsman told a press briefing on Tuesday.Reviewing the bilateral ties in the first year of Obama's presidency, Huntsman said, "We spent the last year in a relationship building bridges, getting to know each other, ensuring the new administration was able to frame our relationship going forward with China in ways meaningful to both countries."Looking to the new year, Huntsman said, "I would argue that we are putting the relationship to the test in a positive sense because I do believe the last many years have built a lot of solid trust, a lot of collaboration, a lot of people exchanges, enormous trade and investment.""Despite our differences, we will stay focused on the big picture between the United States and China," he said. For a trade relationship with an annual volume of 400 billion U.S.dollars, "the issue isn't that we don't have trade challenges; it is how we resolve them," Huntsman said.Huntsman said this year will see trade increases and a few more challenges between both countries."One-China policy and three joint communiques have always been part of our relationship going all the way," Huntsman said.Huntsman also defended U.S. latest plan to sell a nearly 6.4 billion-U.S.-dollar package of arms to Taiwan, which included Patriot missiles, Black Hawk helicopters and minesweepers.China expressed strong indignation and resolute opposition to the sale, announcing the suspension of bilateral military programs and security talks.

Fischer said. "We were 22 years younger then.""Yes, you were very young at that time," Wen replied in good humor. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao (R) presents the group photo of his visit in Vienna 22 years ago to Austrian President Heinz Fischer in Beijing, capital of China, Jan. 21, 2010The caption of the photo reads: Wen Jiabao, then alternate member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and concurrently director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee, meets in Vienna, Austria in 1988 with Heinz Fischer, then president the Parliamentary Group of the Socialist Party of Austria."I think our meeting was in December then?" Fischer suggested."It's December 5," Wen came up with an affirmative comment."Then, Mr. Premier, I will have some proof for you, too," Fischer said as he fetched for a calendar of 1988.Fischer turned to the page of December 5 and read: "Receiving Chinese delegation at 10:00 AM, lunching with Chinese delegation at 12:30 PM and dining with Chinese delegation at 7:00 PM.""But you forgot to note down one point," Wen dropped in. "We had beer at ten that evening.""We should never let anybody else know we do after ten," Fischer joked back. The media persons were amused by the exchange of jokes and shared laughter with the two senior statesmen.China and Austria have maintained frequent exchange of visits between their leaders. During the current state visit to China, President Fischer has held talks with Chinese President Hu Jintao and witnessed the signing of a number of bilateral agreements. He also met with top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo Thursday afternoon. This was the first visit that Fischer paid to China since he became President. In another move to share his memory with Premier Wen, Fischer presented Wen with a photo he took in China back in 1977, when the country had just ended the decade-long chaos of the so-called "Cultural Revolution.""You are an old friend of the Chinese people," Wen told Fischer. "You are one of the statesmen who win my admiration.""Since we have been able to exchange views in a candid way since 22 years ago, I hope we contribute greater effort to advancing China-Austria and China-Europe relations," Wen said.Fischer said the two countries shared broad common interests and views on a lot of issues. He said further advancing bilateral links would serve the fundamental interests of both countries.Wen said the two countries respected each other and worked to expand dialogues between different civilizations. He said this common ground was of great significance to enhancing mutual trust and understanding between China and Europe and promoting international cooperation against various challenges.Wen said the relations between China and Austria went beyond the bilateral framework and took on a broad prospect.Wen said China would like to work with Austria to elevate dialogues and cooperation in various fields on an equal and mutually beneficial footing, and to push forward bilateral links and China-Europe relations in a sound and steady way, so as to promote harmony and sustainable growth of the world.Fischer left Beijing for Shanghai to continue his China trip Thursday evening.

BEIJING, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- China defended its move to reduce its holdings of U.S. Treasury securities, saying the United States should take steps to promote confidence in U.S. dollar .Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang made the comment Thursday when responding to questions on China's sale of U.S. Treasury securities last December.Qin said the issue should be viewed from two perspectives. He said on the one hand, China always followed the principle of "ensuring safety, liquidity and good value" in managing its foreign exchange reserve. And when it came to how much and when China buys the bonds, the decision should be made taking into account the market and China's need, so as to realize rational deployment of China's foreign exchange property, he said. And on the other hand, the United States should take concrete steps to beef up the international market's confidence in the U.S. dollar, Qin said. The way to view the issue was similar to doing business, he said.China trimmed its holdings of U.S. debt by 34.2 billion U.S. dollars in December 2009, leaving Japan the largest holder of U.S. Treasury securities, the U.S. Treasury Department reported on Feb. 16.As of the end of November last year, China held 789.6 billion U.S. dollars of U.S. Treasury bonds.
