A former Jupiter, Florida police sergeant was fired after an investigation found he performed sex acts while on duty, is now suing the town of Jupiter.Jason VanSteenburgh is suing the town for negligent supervision as well as retaliation and discrimination, after he says he was sexually harassed by then Major Amy Walling.Walling was fired at the same time as VanSteenburgh, for engaging in those sexual acts with the sergeant, while he was on duty.Investigators said videos taken during the acts were part of evidence. In his lawsuit, VanSteenburgh admits he engaged in a sexual relationship with his supervisor, Walling in 2013. But he says "she used her power as major to discipline him for personal matters/disputes and put his position on the SWAT team at issue."VanSteenburgh said he ended his relationship with Walling in 2016 when "she began to stalk him and sexually harass him in the workplace, despite his objections." VanSteenburgh says he was fearful of complaining about her."This fear was confirmed when Chief Kitzerow made a comment to VanSteenburgh that he would 'always back his command staff,'" the lawsuit claims.He says despite his objections, Walling then sent him a half-naked photo of herself in his shirt. She also allegedly "bought a home near his home and an identical vehicle to that of his fiancee."VanSteenburgh said he complained to the chief, deputy chief, human resources and other majors multiple times but was told not to worry. He claims "Walling was told to stay away by command staff," but she didn't.VanSteenburgh then says he was removed from the SWAT team and placed on administrative leave. Eventually, he was fired but claimed Walling was given the chance to fight for her job when he wasn't.Jupiter police investigators found that VanSteenburgh engaged in sexual acts in July 2015, after they said a video produced by Walling confirmed all of this.He was also found to have sent a half-naked photo while on duty and in uniform in 2015.Investigators found Walling engaged in that sexual act in July 2015, and also sent naked photos of herself.Both permanently lost their jobs in 2017.  2197

A Georgia school decided on Thursday to reverse its decision it made earlier in the week to end the practice of students participating in the Pledge of Allegiance during all-school assemblies, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. Earlier in the week, Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School said that the pledge would no longer be recited in such assemblies after some parents and students expressed concerns. The school said that it wasn't outright banning the Pledge of Allegiance from being recited during school hours, but moving the pledge to the school's classrooms. “Over the past couple of years it has become increasingly obvious that more and more of our community were choosing to not stand and/or recite the pledge," principal Lara Zelski said, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "There are many emotions around this and we want everyone in our school family to start their day in a positive manner. After all, that is the whole purpose of our morning meeting.” By late Thursday, backlash from the public and public officials forced the school to reverse its decision. Georgia' Department of Education requires schools to make time for the Pledge of Allegiance, but students are not required to stand or recite it. “Students are offered the opportunity to participate in the Pledge of Allegiance," county superintendent Morcease J. Beasley told the Constitution-Journal. "If they choose to participate or not is their individual and constitutional right and the reason the flag of the United States of America exists. A college student from Georiga's jail sentence was reduced from four months to two months on Tuesday in the Cayman Islands after she and her boyfriend violated strict COVID-19 measures last month.According to The New York Times and CNN, the Cayman Islands Court of Appeal reduced 18-year-old Skylar Mack and her 24-year-old boyfriend Vanjae Ramgeet's prison sentence, saying the initial sentence "was not appropriate."Last week, Mack and Ramgeet were sentenced to four months after they both violated the island's mandatory two-week quarantine.Per the Associated Press, Mack arrived on the island on Nov. 27, but on Nov. 29, she broke quarantine by leaving with her boyfriend to attend a water sports event.According to The Times, Mack and Ramgeet initially pleaded guilty to breaking the quarantine rules and were to complete 40 hours of community service. They were also fined ,100.But last week, the prosecutor appealed the ruling saying the sentences were too lenient and a judge sentenced to four months in jail.The Cayman Compass reported that Mack nor Ramgeet plan to appeal the Court of Appeal's ruling. 1121

A man fell about 100 feet into the ocean on the Oregon coast while trying to take a photograph at the scenic spot, according to state police.Sunday afternoon, troopers were called to an area of Oswald West State Park, about 20 miles south of the Oregon-Washington border.Two people had walked down a trail to take a photo at a cliffside viewpoint. The investigation found one of the hikers climbed a tree on the cliff’s edge to pose for a photo. A limb broke, causing the man to fall into the ocean below.Oregon State Police shared an image of a "danger" sign along the trail.The U.S. Coast Guard helped find the man. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital. 671
