Mondelez International, the parent company of Nabisco, has redesigned its packaging of "Barnum's Animals" crackers after being pressured by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.The group called for the redesign by Mondelez because it protests the use of animals in circuses, and the animal crackers boxes showed animals in cages, the Associated Press reports.The crackers were once named for the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey circus, but it folded for good after 146 years. It had removed elephants from its shows because of pressure from PETA, the AP says.The animal crackers boxes now show animals wandering side-by-side in the grass and include trees. 699

MUNCIE, Indiana — Ball State University decided Friday it will keep the name of Papa John’s founder on campus, while Purdue University announced it will do the opposite.In a statement released Friday morning, the board said it made the decision based upon its "current understanding of what transpired" during a conference call last May in which John Schnatter admitted to saying the N-word.Schnatter graduated from Ball State in 1983 and founded Papa John's in 1984. NATIONAL CITY (CNS) - Authorities today identified a motorcyclist who was killed in a collision at a South Bay intersection.Andrew Balderas, 21, of San Ysidro, was riding a Yamaha motorcycle eastbound in the 100 block of Mile of Cars Way just before 7 a.m. Thursday when a Toyota minivan made a left turn directly into his path at Transportation Avenue, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.Balderas, who was wearing a helmet, struck the minivan and was ejected onto the roadway, according to a Medical Examiner's Office statement.An off-duty emergency medical technician arrived shortly after the collision, called 911 and began performing CPR on Balderas, the Medical Examiner's Office said. When paramedics arrived, Balderas was unresponsive and had no pulse. He was transported to UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest, but doctors were unable to revive him.The minivan driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, National City police Sgt. Jeffrey Meeks said.Intoxication was not believed to have been a factor in the collision, Meeks said. 1090

More than a year after he died in police custody with cameras from the reality show "Live PD" on the scene, body camera footage and police records show that a Texas man told police multiple times that he couldn't breathe and was suffering from a heart condition as police took him into custody.According to KVUE-TV in Austin, Texas and the Austin American-Statesman, 40-year-old Javier Ambler died in police custody on March 28, 2019. Ambler had led police and Live PD camera operators on a 22-minute car chase that began when he allegedly failed to dim his headlights to oncoming traffic.Body camera footage from Ambler's arrest shows that police used stun guns three times while taking him into custody, even after he told police he was suffering from congestive heart failure.According to KVUE, an autopsy listed Ambler's death a homicide, which was later determined to be a "justifiable homicide." Medical examiners said Ambler's heart condition and his weight "in combination with forcible restraint" led to his death. Examiners also said Ambler was under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time of his death.KVUE reports that the most serious charge Ambler would have faced was evading arrest, a low-level felony.The District Attorney's Office in Travis County told KVUE that they have been investigating Ambler's death but says they've been hindered by a lack of cooperation from the Williamson County Sheriff's Office. Officials also say that Live PD has failed to share their footage from the arrest with investigators.Travis County District Attorney Margaret Moore told KVUE that she feels that Live PD's participation with the Williamson County Sheriff's Office led to Ambler's death.“It is of very serious concern to any of us who are in law enforcement that the decision to engage in that chase was driven by more of a need to provide entertainment than to keep Williamson County citizens safe,” she said.Moore told KVUE that she plans to take the case before a Grand Jury later this year. 2017
