CHINO HILLS, Calif. (KGTV) -- Fire officials say a brush fire that destroyed a two-story mansion in Chino Hills Monday may have been sparked by a bird, according to KABC. According to Chino Valley Fire, the blaze was caused by a large bird striking high-voltage power lines. The department says the bird then caught fire and fell to the ground, igniting the grass. The tweet went on to say that fire officials and SoCal Edison representatives inspected the power pole and found that there was no transformer installed on the pole as initially reported. No evacuations were ordered and no injuries reported. The blaze started near Chino Hills Parkway and Falling Star Lane just before 2 p.m., KABC reports. 715

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - The City of Chula Vista’s controversial Drag Queen Story Time is moving to a different branch to accommodate the number of registrants, city officials said Tuesday. The event, which was supposed to take place at the Otay Ranch library, will now be held at the Civic Center library on Sept. 10 at 4 p.m. “The Chula Vista Public Library welcomes everyone, and programming at the City’s three libraries includes and reflects the diverse communities the libraries serve,” city officials said in a news release. “Hosting drag queens to read and relate with children promotes reading and literacy and sends a positive message of acceptance and tolerance.” A protest against the event was held Thursday, as opponents said they were concerned it would sexually influence children. (KGTV) — Police are searching for an 81-year-old man who was last seen in the Otay Ranch Mall area.Chula Vista Police says Donald Mooring was last seen around 3 p.m. near the Otay Ranch Mall on Thursday. Police add that Mooring may be suffering from the effects of dementia.Mooring is described as a black man, 5-foot 9-inches tall, and weighing about 230 pounds. (KGTV) - A man suspected of making a threat against a Chula Vista Catholic church and school was arrested Wednesday, Chula Vista Police said.Thomas Escajeda, 61, called St. Rose of Lima church and school at 293 H St. Tuesday. He threatened to harm parishioners attending a mass for All Saints Day on Thursday at 8 a.m., police said.A church representative called police, who arrested Escajada Wednesday on suspicion of Felony Criminal Threats. He is currently being held on 0,000 bail.Escajeda has been a regular participant of the church for a year, police said. Investigators said they did not know the motive for the threat.The All Saints Day mass is part of a solemn holy day for Catholic worshippers, dedicated to honor of the saints of the Church, according to Catholic.org.The mass and Thursday classes were canceled despite the arrest, police said.
