BEIJING, April 19 (Xinhua) -- China's Vice President Xi Jinping Monday told members and organizations of the Communist Party of China (CPC) they had strict responsibilities in restoring normal life in quake-stricken Qinghai Province and helping the survivors.Xi, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, made the requirements at a meeting of senior CPC leaders in Beijing on Party building.Party members, officials and organizations responsible for civil affairs should make sure quake-affected people have enough food, clothes, drinking water and shelters, Xi said.CPC members, officials and organizations working in health-care fields should treat the injured and prevent disease outbreaks, while members working in education should work to resume school classes, Xi said.Other CPC officials and members in transport, electrical power and telecommunications should make efforts to repair infrastructure, and restore power, water supplies and road transport as soon as possible.He Guoqiang, head of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, who was also present at the meeting, underlined disciplinary rules for quake relief work.
PARIS, April 27 (Xinhua) -- French President Nicolas Sarkozy says he wants to enhance Franco-Sino relations at all levels because China has an indispensable role to play on the global stage.The French president was speaking in an interview with Xinhua Tuesday before his visit to China, where he will attend the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai.President Sarkozy described bilateral ties and partnership as comprehensive as well as strategic."Comprehensive, because it covers all aspects of our relationship; strategic, because China has become an absolutely essential player on the international stage. There is no more big issue today that we can tackle without China," Sarkozy said.Referring to the establishment of the France-China diplomatic relations 45 years ago, the president said some misunderstanding between the two countries had belonged to the past and he held a firm confidence in China's future."This is why I made the strengthening of the Franco-Chinese partnership a priority of our foreign policy," Sarkozy said.He said relations between the two countries had warmed and France would like to further ties with China "in all dimensions."

HAIKOU, April 25 (Xinhua) -- China's fishery administration said on Sunday it had started regular patrols of the South China Sea, sending two vessels to take over from two others currently escorting Chinese fishing boats in the area."China Yuzheng 301 and 302 take over from China Yuzheng 311 and 202, which have been patrolling the sea area of Nansha Islands since April 1," said Wu Zhuang, director of Administration of Fishery and Fishing Harbor Supervision for South China Sea under the Ministry of Agriculture.He said the patrol ships were sent to escort Chinese fishing boats in the South China Sea and reinforce China's fishing rights of the waters around Nansha Islands.The two ships set sail from Sanya, a coastal city in China's Southernmost Island Province of Hainan, on Sunday.China's patrol vessels escort the country's fishing boats and help treat fishermen who fall ill, Wu said. BEIJING, June 1 (Xinhua) -- China's central bank will push forward yuan settlement in cross-border trade and investment in the western Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Zhou Xiaochuan, governor of the People's Bank of China (PBOC), said Tuesday.Zhou said it was one of PBOC's important moves amid the central government's efforts to achieve leapfrog development and lasting stability in Xinjiang. However, he did not elaborate on the plan nor give a timetable.He said the PBOC would also support the development of small and medium-sized enterprises in Xinjiang.Chinese exporters and importers in five cities -- Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai and Dongguan -- are already allowed to settle cross-border trade deals in yuan.A PBOC report said last month that the country needs to expand yuan cross-border settlement when conditions allow.
XINING, April 26 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin visited quake survivors and rescuers during a trip to the quake-hit Yushu in northwest China's Qinghai Province on Monday."The government will go all out to rebuild the quake zone," Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, told villagers from Yushu County, where the epicenter lies.Jia also met with representatives of monks who joined the rescue. He said the monks showed patriotism and compassion in their proactive role in quake relief work and called on them to continue to bring spiritual support to the quake survivors.
