After weeks of relatively warm conditions for much of the Midwest and Northeast, a major snow storm has the Midwest and Northeast in its sights. Blizzard warnings have been issued for parts of the Dakotas, Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska. Winter storm warnings are in effect for parts of Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, New York, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. Amazon customers no longer need to save their receipts or boxes if they need to return an item. Starting Monday, Amazon purchases can now be returned at all Kohl's locations nationwide. According to Kohl's, no receipt or box is needed in order to return items. Instead of a receipt, customers can now have a QR Code emailed to their account. A Kohl's representative will then scan the QR Code off of a cellphone and process the return. The program began as a pilot at 100 locations nationwide. The return program now encompasses 1,100 Kohl's locations nationwide. “The nationwide rollout of the Amazon Returns program is our single biggest initiative of the year,” said Michelle Gass, Kohl’s chief executive officer. “Our top strategic priority is driving traffic, and this transformational program does just that. A Michigan woman said she escaped two human traffickers from their home up north last week.According to Michigan State Police, troopers were called to a home in northern Michigan around 3 a.m. on Jan. 10, to investigate the alleged human trafficking case.Roscommon County Sheriff's deputies said they had a woman in custody for stealing a vehicle, but the woman said she escaped a home where two men forced her to clean and perform acts of prostitution.The woman told troopers she was being held against her will by two suspects, identified as James Jarrell and Jeffrey Kobel, both 50 and from Roscommon.She said she had been brought three hours north from Ypsilanti to Roscommon County a few days earlier. There was also alleged drug dealing going on at the residence.The MSP Emergency Support Team and other agencies executed a search warrant at the house and arrested both men.Police charged Jarrell with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, one count of unlawful imprisonment and one count of habitual offender fourth offense. Police charged Kobel with one count of unlawful imprisonment and habitual offender third offense.Both remain in the Crawford County Jail. 1195

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, almost nothing feels normal. Simply walking out your home comes with new rules to follow. Now, filing taxes this year is causing some confusion. “Normally, busy season is a challenge in and of itself, but this has added many more layers,” said Elieen Sherr, with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.Sherr has had an increase number of people confused on whether they are supposed to file their income taxes now, or if the federal income tax deadline extension applies to them.“This all happened in the last few weeks, and the states, they were waiting for the IRS to come out with their guidance,” said Sherr. “At first, it was just payment relief. Then, it was filing and payment relief, so that was confusing.”Sherr explained, just shy of the normal tax deadline, there is now some clearer guidance.The federal government has extended it deadline for federal tax filing and payments to July 15, 2020. Many states have now moved their filing deadlines to match.However, in a few states like Mississippi, Virginia, and Idaho, you have to file earlier. The deadline is May 15 in Mississippi, June 1 for Virginia, and June 15 in Idaho.Differing state and federal deadlines have some wondering if you file your state return early can you file your federal at the later deadline?“Generally, you have to start with the federal, so you will have to start with the federal to get to a state return,” said Sherr.Some good news in that instance: if you owe money on your federal return, you won’t have to pay that until July 15.
