BEIJING, May 2 (Xinhua) -- The health needs of victims in the area hit by a 7.0-magnitude earthquake in southwest China are being met, the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC) said on Thursday.

BEIJING, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Southwestern Sichuan Province is making every effort to carry out rescue and relief work in the quake-hit region, and prepare for the post-quake reconstruction, local authorities said at a press conference here Thursday.

About 120,000 cubic meters of mud, rocks and debris were estimated tumbling into the Jinsha River, which triggered huge waves and caused damages in Kahaluo Township, Leibo County of the neighboring Sichuan Province, the publicity department of Yongshan County said.

"The concept of the 'Chinese dream' came just in time. It reflects the reality in China and people's expectations and serves the need to unite the people to achieve a higher objective."

Heavy rain has hit the area since July, leaving floodwater from tributaries to flow into the Heilongjiang River. The reservoir along the Zeya River, a major tributary of the Heilongjiang River in Russian territory, has discharged floodwater, putting more pressure on flood control in the lower reaches, said the official.
