JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Kanye West will appear as a presidential candidate on Mississippi's ballot in November, after being approved as a qualified candidate by the State Board of Election Commissioners. The rapper has already qualified to appear on the ballot as an independent candidate in several states, including Arkansas, Idaho, Iowa, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Utah. He filed to appear on the ballot in Kentucky on Friday.West failed to appear on ballots in Virginia, Ohio, New Jersey, Missouri, and Wyoming. To qualify in Mississippi, he was required to pay a ,500 fee to the Secretary of State's Office and get the signatures of at least 1,000 Mississippi voters. West, who once backed Republican President Donald Trump, announced last month that he had broken with Trump and would launch his own presidential bid. His campaign filed paperwork on July 15 with the Federal Election Commission. 907

KENOSHA, Wis. – The city of Kenosha, Wisconsin, is taking stock of the damage left in the wake of unrest following the shooting of Jacob Blake. As President Donald Trump made his first visit to Kenosha since the shooting Tuesday, small businesses were beginning to tally up the losses.“You ain’t touching my dojo. That’s a fact,” taekwondo student Shelley Meyer said during a live-stream on Facebook as she stood guard outside her dojo.“I’m getting scared. I know I’m a military vet, but I am outnumbered here,” she said. That’s when a number of people confronted her.“They came across the street and then attacked the school,” said Meyer. She pleaded with the attackers before others stepped in.“Then another group of protesters surrounded me and built a human shield.”Today, the school is still standing.“She singlehandedly geared up and, you know, begged and pleaded in the face of people spitting and throwing stuff at her, protected our building,” said U.S. Taekwondo Academy owner Jon Kim. He says the damages are estimated in the tens of thousands. But down the block that night, another business was not so lucky.“The cars are just blowing up one by one,” Meyer said during her live stream.Like dominoes, the dealership’s cars detonated one tank at a time.Witnesses say the flames started in one car and quickly engulfed the entire lot. The owners estimate the losses in the millions. The inferno, which burned for hours, left more than 100 cars completely destroyed. For owners Sahil and Anmol Khindri, their American dream has turned into a nightmare.“We built this place up from the ground up. That office right there, as you can see, it's in ashes right now. It's done. It's gone,” said Anmol Khindri, co-owner of Car Source.Charred scraps, shattered glass and tires melted to the core are all that remain.“It's gonna cost us more money to remove this car off the lot than it's worth itself,” said Sahil Khindri.More than a week since the destruction, they’re still not sure how they will recover financially. A GoFundMe page has been set up. They’re hoping for some assistance though, it’s unclear whether their insurance will pay out at all.“We had nothing to do with it. And we were the ones who was getting penalized for this,” said Sahil Khindri. It’s a similar story up and down Kenosha’s business district.Boarded up storefronts are decorated with colorful messages of hope while masking the damage and loss.Back at the taekwondo academy, their judo coin symbol has been painted outside the boarded-up exterior. Kim says it’s a symbol of resilience."The more that we can rely on each other, hopefully, you know, as a community, we can stay protected." 2672
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 10-year-old German Shepherd named Irgo should be settling into his new home in Kansas but instead he's overseas. Irgo's odyssey began Monday when his owner, Kara Swindle, dropped him off at the airport in Portland, Oregon ahead of the family's move to Wichita. Swindle said Irgo flew United Airlines to Denver where he spent the night. The next day Irgo was scheduled to land at Kansas City International Airport to be reunited with his family at United Airlines' Cargo facility."They took us back to the warehouse, they showed me the kennel, and the minute I said 'Irgo', out pops this Great Dane," Swindle said. "So I instantly burst into tears just wondering where my dog was. I was confused, upset and just in utter shock that this was not my dog."According to Swindle, it took several hours for United to figure out where Irgo was. The Great Dane provided a clue."His paperwork on his food said Japan so at that point they realized that's probably what happened and it got switched up somehow," Swindle said.Swindle received a call from United Airlines early Wednesday morning, that Irgo was, in fact, in Japan.Swindle said United Airlines told her that they're investigating how this happened, but they have offered her a theory."One thing they're thinking right now is that somehow at the pet resort in the Denver airport, when they got taken out of their kennels, to go potty — or whatever they do — they somehow got switched," Swindle said.United Airlines is working with Irgo's family to get him back home. Swindle said Wednesday evening, United has told her they plan to send Irgo on a flight that will land Thursday night in Wichita."They've been sending us updates like crazy. We've been so adamant that they send us pictures every hour letting us know how he is because I don't want anything happening. This dog is our baby," Swindle said.Scripps station KSHB in Kansas City reached out to United Airlines for comment, as of Wednesday evening, they have not answered. 2061
Judge Esther Salas, a US district judge in the state of New Jersey, spoke out for the first time since her son was shot and killed two weeks ago.Salas’ son Daniel Anderl was killed on Salas’ doorstep. He would have celebrated his 20th birthday this weekend."Two weeks ago, my life as I knew it changed in an instant and my family will never be the same. A madman, who I believe was targeting me because of my position as federal judge came to my house,” Judge Salas said.It is believed that Daniel protected his father Mark Anderl from the path of the bullets. The father survived the shooting, but was wounded three times.“As federal judges, we understand that our decisions will be scrutinized and some may disagree strongly with our rulings, but what we cannot accept is when we are forced to live in fear for our lives because personal information, like our home addresses, can be easily obtained by anyone seeking to do us or our families harm,” Salas said. “Unfortunately, for my family, the threat was real and the free flow of information from the internet allowed this sick and depraved human being to find all our personal information and target us.”The suspect, 72-year-old Roy Den Hollander, died by suicide after the shooting. Hollander was also suspected in the killing of Marc Angelucci, the vice president of the National Coalition for Men. Angelucci died on July 11, eight days before Anderl's death..The New York Times reported that Hollander had a hit list that included Salas. To watch Judge Salas' statement, click here. 1549
