SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – The Fleet Science Center is offering a program that helps San Diego students navigate their way through any challenges they face while distance learning.Participating students will have to go through a health screening before entering the building at Balboa Park.Once inside, classrooms are transformed into individual hubs. Students each have a workspace where they use their own electronic device to connect to their distance learning classrooms. Educators are there helping with any issues that may come up.Andia Pebdani, the Youth Engagement Manager for the Fleet Science Center, said the idea of the hubs came from families who needed help juggling the work life with schools being closed.“Some families don’t have the option at home, or it’s like, ‘I needed to do this so I can do my job, but I can also make sure my student is on the computer,’” said Pebdani.During breaks, educators work on different science activities with the kids or they get tours of different parts of their museum since their doors are still closed to the public.The cost for this program is 0-0 a week depending on whether you have a membership with the center. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The manager of a Cricket Wireless store in Pacific Beach is hoping the public can help identify two men involved in tagging the back of the store. Blake Beadle, the store manager, said newly installed cameras captured two men approach the store on Garnett Avenue on Monday night at around 9:30 p.m.One of the men approached the back of the store and appeared to spray paint something on the back wall. Meanwhile, the other man stood watch.Beadle said he had just painted over the spot a week and a half ago, when vandals had hit the same spot. “It seems like as soon as we paint over it, within a few weeks it gets tagged again in a similar fashion,” said Beadle. He reported the latest incident to police. He said he hopes the video can help identify the suspects. 792

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The non-profit organization Border Angels hosted its 32nd-anniversary dinner on Saturday. The dinner raises money to help continue providing the services they offer to immigrants in the community, including water drops for border crossers, legal services, and shelter. The migrant caravan and the upcoming election were hot topics of conversation during the dinner. This year the organization honorees were Margarita Zavala, Kirsten Zittlau and Jacqueline Arellano. Zavala and Zittlau are attorneys. Arellano is the water drop coordinator for Border Angels. Border Angels' founder Enrique Morones tells 10News that he decided to honor women this year. He also encouraged everyone to go out and vote on November 6th saying the president is sending the wrong message about immigrants. Guests at the event also reacted to President Donald Trump deploying the military to the border. At a campaign event, the president was not backing down, saying migrants need to come to the U.S. legally.   1051

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Ten people were arrested in a suspected smuggling incident after border officials stopped a boat off the coast of Coronado this week.U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine agents say a boat was spotted just west of Coronado at about 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Agents said the vessel was traveling from Mexican waters into U.S. territory.A crew was sent out to stop the suspected smuggling boat and 10 people were found aboard. The boat had been traveling without lights on and was spray painted black, according to agents.The individuals on the boat, all male Mexican citizens ages 18 to 55, were taken back to shore and turned over to Border Patrol, CBP said."It’s dangerous to travel on a crowded boat, out at sea, with no lights, and these smugglers took the added step of spray-painting the hull black so they would be difficult to spot at night," said Christopher Hunter, Deputy Director of Marine Operations for CBP in San Diego. "Smuggling organizations aren’t considering anyone’s safety when these make these illegal attempts, only what profits they can try to make."The 10 men were due to be returned to Mexico, CBP said. 1166

The NRF says an "estimated 147.8 million U.S. consumers [are] expected to participate, up from 134.3 million last year, according to the annual survey released today."This includes both in-store and online shopping.This year had the shortest shopping window between Thanksgiving and Christmas, leaving shoppers nervous.Jessica Ramirez said she was so busy working she could only start shopping Saturday. She said the family had been to a few stores that day and she will get as much done as possible in the final countdown before Christmas.Dana Giusti was eating a candy cane while she shopped in Best Buy, saying her sugar fix was staving off anxiety about finishing up Christmas shopping and wrapping all the presents for her family.In Mission Valley, the Target parking lot was filled with lines of cars. Families had different plans of attack to tackle their lists. Some shopped online and picked up curbside, while others braved the crowds inside."NRF defines the holiday season as November 1 through December 31 and has forecast that sales will total between 7.9 and 0.7 billion.
