San Diego’s median income can afford renters 552 square feet, according to a new report by Rent Café. The City of San Diego says the median income for a family of four is ,400. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A man was rescued from the top of a section of the border wall in Otay Mesa Tuesday.Cal Fire firefighters were called to a section of barrier in Otay Mesa just before 6 a.m. Crews arrived to find one person stuck on top of the border wall structure.Crews used a 35-foot ladder to reach the man and assist him down. No injuries were reported.Tuesday's rescue comes more than a month after San Diego Fire-Rescue firefighters and Border Patrol agents helped rescue three people stuck on top of a portion of the border wall in Otay Mesa. 560

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A man shot his wife and four sons at a Paradise Hills home Saturday, killing four, before taking his own life.Sunday morning, a GoFundMe set up by the victims' family identifies those killed as Sabrina, the mother, and her children, 3-year-old Enzi, 5-year-old Zuriel and 11-year-old Zeth. According to the page, 9-year-old Ezequiel is still in the hospital. The father was identified as Jose Valdivia, 31, according to City News Service. San Diego Police were called to the 2100 block of Flintridge Dr. just before 7 a.m. Police said the dispatcher could not communicate with the caller, but could hear an argument and someone being asked to leave in the background.Officers received another call en route to the home from a neighbor who said they heard arguing and what they believed to be a "nail gun firing." Police arrived and saw a young boy covered in blood inside the home. Three other boys, their mother, and their father were found inside with apparent gunshot wounds. A 3-year-old and the 29-year-old mother were pronounced dead at the scene, according to SDPD Lt. Matt Dobbs. The boys' 31-year-old father, believed to be the shooter, was also among the dead.A 5-year-old, 9-year-old, and 11-year-old were rushed to a nearby hospital. Two of those children have died and the other was taken into emergency surgery in critical condition, according to police.Officers had initially told media the 5-year-old and 9-year-old boys had died and the 11-year-old boy was in surgery, but said during Saturday's press conference they could not confirm which child was in critical condition.Police said the shooting was related to domestic violence and called it a "murder-suicide." A restraining order was filed Friday by the mother against the father, but isn't believe to have been served as of Saturday. Police said the father may have been aware of the order.Saturday morning, police said the father came to the residence and got into an argument with his wife, before using a handgun to shoot his family and then himself.The four boys and their mother lived on the property with several other relatives, police said. The father was not currently living at the property and the couple was going through some type of divorce process.Police confirmed officers were called to the property to break up an argument between the mother and father earlier this month, but no crime was committed."I just pray for that family," one neighbor said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A heartbroken dog owner is demanding answers from a motel in Mission Valley.Mary Prevost left her 4-year-old German Shepherd alone her room Saturday night when she went to dinner then found out later it had been hit and killed on Interstate 8.“I opened my door and my dog wasn’t there,” said Prevost, “I ran down to the front desk and said my dog wasn’t there and the woman said around 8:30 they had seen a dog running around in the parking lot.”Prevost says the motel staff said they tried calling her but they had dialed the wrong number.The dog owner then drove around Mission Valley as Saturday night turned into Sunday morning — then animal control rang.“She apologized and said that a dog that fit my description with a red collar had been hit on the highway and she was on the side of the road,” said Prevost through tears.“I planned to take her to Coronado beach the next day and instead I picked her up dead on the highway,” said PrevostPrevost had 4-year-old Valkyrie cremated on Sunday, but now she is grappling with Motel 6 management about how this happened.Prevost says the motel's risk managers told her the dog likely opened up the door on its own.“If they just called me or animal control or the police,” said Prevost, ”I could have gotten her because she was alive.”She says the hotel has video of the dog wandering the motel and the parking lot, but they won’t let her see it.Motel 6 has denied multiple requests by 10News for comment.Prevost says it just doesn’t seem fair to blame the dog.“The problem is even if she got the door open,” said Prevost, “they just let her go.” 1622

  

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A plan that has the potential to triple Mission Valley's population by 2050 will be voted on by the San Diego City Council Tuesday.The city will vote on the final draft of the proposed Mission Valley Community Plan. It replaces the last plan that was written back in 1985. Supporters say it will help address the region's housing crisis. "One of the biggest problems we've had in the city is our community plans haven't been updated in decades. So, whenever developers come in and want to build housing they have to get conditional use permits and that takes sometimes over years to get accomplished, and that drives the cost of housing up," said councilman Scott Sherman whose district includes Mission Valley.Currently, Mission Valley is zoned mixed-use and residential. The new plan would rezone it to almost all mixed-use. Developers would be able to build up to 145 housing units per acre, instead of 73 units per acre. "Apartments and condos, density around mass transit, that's the whole idea, we need housing so let's make it more dense around transit oriented hubs, cause we have the trolley that runs right through Mission Valley," said Sherman. People who work in Mission Valley are worried that traffic will be a nightmare in an area already known for gridlock. "It's already congested as it is, so to build more, where?" asked Eni O'Donnell. "It depends on how well they plan integrating it all in, if you bring in 50,000 people overnight, then obviously, that's not going to work," said Archie Kordestani who lives in Civita. The plan includes several new bike and pedestrian bridges, connectors to help with traffic, and more transit stops along the trolley's green line. "Busing, biking, trolleys, I think these are the ways to go," said Kordestani.The project also includes 160 acres of park space and two schools. If it gets final approval, builders can start applying for permits in the next few months."If you make the rules in place and make it easier for people to build, they'll come in and build and the price should go down, cause right now our housing crisis is really a supply issue," said Sherman. 2155
