President Donald Trump railed against NFL players who protested at Thursday night's preseason games, saying the players are outraged about "something that most of them are unable to define.""The NFL players are at it again - taking a knee when they should be standing proudly for the National Anthem. Numerous players, from different teams, wanted to show their 'outrage' at something that most of them are unable to define. They make a fortune doing what they love," he tweeted from his Bedminster golf club on Friday morning, the ninth day of his vacation. On Thursday, as the preseason games officially kicked off, several players took a knee, raised a fist, or did not take to the field while the National Anthem was played before a dozen preseason games across the country.NFL players have said the protests, which began in 2016, are intended to draw attention to what they see as systematic bias against people of color."It's not necessarily about the anthem, that's where everybody's messing up," Tennessee Titans star defensive end Jurrell Casey told CNN last month. "The way that the justice system treats minorities is the issue that we have."The President sees the issue as a political winner, using the protests to fire up his base. He told attendees of a private dinner last year, "It's really caught on. It's really caught on."However, he's also been criticized recently for questioning the intelligence of several notable African Americans - including CNN anchor Don Lemon and California Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters. In another tweet, Trump also reiterated his belief that players, who don't stand for the National Anthem should be penalized. He wrote, "Be happy, be cool! A football game, that fans are paying soooo much money to watch and enjoy, is no place to protest. Most of that money goes to the players anyway. Find another way to protest. Stand proudly for your National Anthem or be Suspended Without Pay!"NFL players, in fact, do not take home a majority of the revenue from games. According to Sports Illustrated, in the current collective bargaining agreement, players get a lesser share than NFL team owners, calculated around 47 to 48%.The NFL said it won't punish the players who took part in Thursday's protests, noting it had shelved what was supposed to be a new policy on anthem conduct until it reaches an agreement with the NFL Players Association.Trump has slammed the NFL players since the protests began, suggesting the players be kicked out of the country and praising sports he says are more patriotic. 2551

POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) -- A cluster of ten church-run thrift shops at a Poway shopping center, described as a “Disneyland” for discount hunters, will begin to close early next year.In preparation for redevelopment, the owners of the Carriage Center West Shopping Center near Poway and Carriage roads have informed all the tenants that their leases will expire in 2020.While some of the stores will move to new locations, at least four of the church-run thrifts are in danger of closing permanently.“It would take a miracle to find a place that we could afford to move to,” said Marcia Harrod, who has volunteered for 19 years at St. Bartholomew's Thrift Shop.St. Bart’s has operated a thrift shop for 53 years.Sumner Rollings, the president of the thrift shop, said a committee of volunteers spent 18 months searching for a new location, without luck.“The biggest factor has been the cost per square foot of space,” he said. The shop’s lease will expire in February.Built in 1974, the Carriage Center is considered a “mecca” for thrift store fans because it offers 10 stores within walking distance, along with restaurants and other service businesses.“It’s really sad,” said one customer named Tina who said she shops at the Carriage Center weekly. “I’m retired and this is my Disneyland.”St. Michael’s Thrift Shop is also in danger of closing permanently.“We don’t charge Nordstrom prices so we can’t pay Nordstrom rent either,” said volunteer Ken Baumann.Sales at St. Michael’s keep 1,000 kids in Haiti clothed, he said.St. Bart’s raised ,000 for church services last year, said Rollings.“It’s been an incredible run as far as supporting the outreach of the church, and all good things come to an end,” Rollings said. “Something else will take its place.” 1766

President Donald Trump is expected to address the media Friday afternoon at 5 ET following a report citing several unnamed sources claiming Trump made disparaging remarks about military servicemembers killed in the line of duty. The report was published late on Thursday by the Atlantic and immediately prompted Trump to react. Sources told the Atlantic that Trump called fallen servicemembers “losers” and “suckers.”Trump, who usually does not speak to the media when returning to the White House on trips, responded late Thursday night by denying the report’s accuracy. On Friday, rather than holding a typical White House news briefing, press secretary Kayleigh McEnany made a statement denying the report and left the briefing room without taking questions. In addition to the Atlantic’s story, the Associated Press, Washington Post and Fox News were able to independently confirm the accuracy of much of the report with their sources. 944

President Donald Trump might not be greeted with a warm welcome home when he and his family move from the White House to Mar-a-Lago once the soon-to-be-former president leaves office in January.According to The New York Times and The Seattle Times, a lawyer for the DeMoss family, who owns property next door to the resort, sent a letter Tuesday to the Town of Palm Beach and the U.S. Secret Service. The letter stated that Trump couldn't live at Mar-a-Lago because of an agreement he signed in 1993 when he converted the private residence into a private club, the Times reported. The Times reported that the letter pointed out that no one, including Trump, may reside there.Per the agreement, no one, including Trump, is allowed to spend more than seven days in a row at the resort, for no more than three weeks total a year, the Palm Beach Post reported.According to the Post, when Trump converted the residence into the club in 1993, his lawyer assured the council that Trump would no longer live at the club. 1018
