SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego Superior Court jury is deliberating the murder case against a 44-year-old man who admits killing his wife.Armando Perez was grilled about his relationship with his estranged wife; 19-year-old Diana Gonzalez.She was murdered seven years ago in a men's restroom at San Diego City College.He'd stalked her that day, climbing a tree to peer into a second-floor classroom to see if she were there.  After class he confronted her.  "I remember just losing it and I guess I stabbed her." "You killed her." "Yes."Perez testified that he was jealous and that she told him he'd never see their baby daughter again.Time and again he admitted guilt but denied clear memories of strangling her then mutilating her body; finally carving an obscenity into her back.The prosecutor continued,  "After you stabbed Diana  in her neck, in her chest, on her face; you knew she was dead, didn't you?" "I don't know. It was me but I don't remember doing it."Perez appeared to be fighting back tears at one point, as he was repeatedly asked about specifics of the attack. "I just became a monster. I don't remember doing none of that."If convicted, Perez faces life in prison without the possibility of parole. 1255

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A war veteran who used to deliver meals to seniors in the North County is now receiving them himself.City councilman Mark Kersey honored Jim Munday on Wednesday morning for his contributions. This week, the long-time Rancho Bernardo resident will celebrate a birthday most of us can only hope to reach—102 years old.Councilman Kersey brought him a blanket, flowers, some food, and a special certificate in honor of his birthday and thanking him for all of his contributions to the Meals on Wheels of San Diego County, but it's even more meaningful because Jim was once a Meals on Wheels volunteer himself.“He started delivering when he was 90 and now he's 102, so he's a pretty special guy,” Kersey said. At 102, Munday is quiet, modest, and hard of hearing but still very much aware of the world around him.“A good day for a birthday party,” he said as he sat outside. The World War II vet fought in the Battle of the Bulge, receiving several medals including a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.His own artwork lines his living room. He started painting when was 90 and says he learned from watching Bob Ross on PBS.In 2003, Munday’s wife, Mildred, passed away, but their great-grandson, Hudson, and daughter Millie, were both on hand for this major milestone.“He's a very honest, generous person, and I'm very proud of him,” Millie said. Now his community is doing the same for him.“To be able to give back to someone who's given so much is something that makes San Diego and Rancho Bernardo a special place,” Kersey said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A taste of Comic-Con fun hits town early, featuring San Diego's cutest "underdogs."PAWmicon returns, this year at the future site of Balboa Park's Comic-Con Museum (formerly the Hall of Champions.) The event invites dog fans out for a day of superhero-themed fun with their furry companions to benefit the Helen Woodward Animal Center's orphaned animals and programs.The event will also host a canine and owner costume contest. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A suspect who reportedly sexually assaulted a female student at Mesa College has been taken into custody Friday night, according to the San Diego Community College Police.The sexual assault happened around 1:30 p.m. on the grassy area outside the Mesa College LRC.The suspect reportedly walked with the woman before pinning her down in the grass and trying to put his hand down her pants and under her shirt.Police released no further details about the suspect Saturday.  509

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Among being big, bold and beautiful, the Torrey Pine tree could also be the solution when it comes to helping with the world's water crisis."As a child we would go hiking there [Torrey Pines] every single weekend and see how there were giant puddles under the tree."And those puddles gave Cambridge High senior, Emily Tianshi, her "a-ha" moment."When Torrey Pines are that big that means they're confident they can get enough moisture soaked in through the atmospheric moisture harvesting, and they don't mind if there's a little bit more evaporation," Emily said.She spent years studying the water retaining tree, trying to mimic it's pines that bring water in and pour it out."Really late at night I would bring my prototype out then put it there and hopefully capture some fog, then go back early to see if anything happened."Her patent pending prototype recently gained national recognition from the Water Environmental Federation."It was really exciting because it showed me it has a lot of potential within the water sector," Emily described.With it, she wanted to one day help areas facing drought."Investigators estimated that if they captured just 4% of the moisture in Chile, it would be enough to cover the nation's driest areas to supply everything."She's also created a campaign with her brother called Clearwater Innovation with two goals in mind."First and foremost to spread awareness about the water crisis and secondly to encourage kids to use their creativity to solve the problem and innovate out of their comfort zone.
