BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. -- The largest wildfire on record in Colorado is only 51 percent contained Tuesday, although firefighters say they were finally able to “go on the offense” battling the blaze this week.The Cameron Peak Fire is more than 200,000 acres in size. It started August 13 and is burning northwest of Denver in the mountains. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.A Red Flag Warning starts Wednesday, as dry and windy weather persists.The weather is also hampering efforts to control two new wildfires burning in Boulder County, north of Denver. Both started over the weekend.The Calwood Fire is under 10,000 acres and is about 17 percent contained. The Lefthand Canyon Fire is 470 acres and 4 percent contained. The cause of both fires is still under investigation.Because of their proximity to residential areas, thousands are evacuated due to these two wildfires. BARRIO LOGAN, Calif. (KGTV) -- Business owners in Barrio Logan are unhappy with the San Diego City Council's decision to fund the three temporary homeless tents opening on December 1st. The council voted 8-1 on Tuesday in favor of the funding. Council-member Alvarez was the only one to vote no, saying the city missed a chance to really solve the problem. The owners of Ryan Bros Coffee say their shop already deals with homeless on a regular basis. Their shop is less than half a mile away from one of the tents schedule to go up on 16th and Newton. Co-owner Tom Ryan says they’ve had people overdose in the bathroom or collapse, sick on the ground inside the store. Ryan’s staff is getting ready to see the number of homeless go up during the winter. The other two tents are in the Midway District and the East Village.  856

(AP) — A Tennessee school district has issued an apology for a social studies assignment that asked students to pretend to be slave-owners and brainstorm expectations for their slaves.The Tennessean reported Thursday that Williamson County Schools and Sunset Middle School apologized for the assignment, saying it was inappropriate. The homework also assigned other tasks including the creation of a political cartoon depicting immigrant labor in the U.S. and writing a public service announcement about the hazards of living in urban areas.The two teachers who assigned the homework also apologized, saying in a statement that the assignment has been pulled and won't be graded.The Tennessee Department of Education says the middle school is 70 percent white. 785

BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- A U.S. judge says the IRS can't keep withholding coronavirus relief payments from incarcerated people, potentially clearing the way for at least 80,000 checks totaling more than 0 million to be sent to people behind bars in the United States.The ruling gives the IRS until Oct. 24 to reconsider the payments for those who were denied or had their money intercepted solely because of their incarceration.But for incarcerated people who didn't file a tax return in 2018 or 2019, another deadline is looming -- they have until Oct. 15 to apply for the checks.The IRS and Treasury Department have not yet decided whether to pursue an appeal. 669
