BEIJING, June 1 (Xinhua) -- China Tuesday released details of its green-car subsidy program designed to boost the nation's auto industry and cut vehicle emissions.Through the program, subsidies of up to 60,000 yuan (8,784 U.S. dollars) will be given to buyers of pure electric vehicles in the five cities chosen for the pilot program, the Ministry of Finance said in a statement on its website.Buyers of plug-in hybrid cars will receive up to 50,000 yuan in subsidies.The cities chosen for the pilot program are Shanghai, Changchun, Shenzhen, Hangzhou and Hefei.China is the world's largest auto market.

BEIJING, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese and Indian presidents Thursday agreed that the two Asian countries should further develop partnership and cooperation for mutual benefits as well as regional and global peace and development.Chinese President Hu Jintao and his Indian counterpart Pratibha Devisingh Patil held talks in Beijing Thursday afternoon. BEIJING, May 19 (Xinhua) -- China's centrally-administered state-owned enterprises (SOEs) raked in a combined profit of 325.99 billion yuan (47.7 billion U.S. dollars) in the first four months of the year, the industry authorities announced here Wednesday.The profit figure in the January-April period represents 81.7 percent growth year on year, the State-Owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) said in a statement on its website.Centrally controlled SOE's combined operating revenue hit 4.89 trillion yuan in the period, up 50.4 percent year on year, the statement said.While the statement did not specify the reasons for the profit and revenue increases, experts from the SASAC research center attributed the surge to last year's low comparison basis when Chinese firms were hit hard by the global economic downturn.There are currently 126 centrally-administered SOEs under the SASAC.

BEIJING, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao extended their regards to 115 miners late Monday who had been rescued alive after being trapped in a flooded coal mine for over a week.The two leaders also paid tributes to all the 3,000 rescuers who had been racing the clock to save the 153 trapped people since the flooding happened on March 28 in the Wangjialing Coal Mine in northern Shanxi Province.Hu and Wen ordered the rescue headquarters to step up efforts and go all out to save the other 38 trapped people.They also required local health authorities to give the most considerate treatment of the rescued miners.Altogether 261 miners were working underground when floodwater gushed into the pit of the mine, which was under construction, and 108 were lifted safely to the surface.
