The hunter becomes the hunted! In April, a nature photographer along Florida's Gulf Coast captured some incredible images of an osprey with a fresh kill, flying hundreds of feet in the air.The man who took the stunning pictures, Doc Jon, said he knew he took some great shots. But when he looked at them on his computer, they got even better. He noticed that the prey, which he thought was a fish, was in fact a small shark. Then, he saw the shark also had prey clenched in its jaws -- a small fish!It was a lucky, double payday for the osprey.  I guess you could say: a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush or a fish in the talons is worth two in the nest. The photos have been shared thousands of times since being posted.Courtesy CNN Newsource 795

The Navy’s newest, most high-tech nuclear submarines use at least one piece of technology that millions of children use every day — a video game controller.According to The Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk, Virginia, the Navy is replacing traditional periscopes on its Virginia-class nuclear submarines with high resolution cameras that will be controlled with Xbox 360 controllers.According to the Virginian-Pilot, the cameras were originally designed to be controlled with a “helicopter-style” joystick. That design was quickly dropped after officials got feedback from a group of Navy junior officers.Lt. j.g. Kyle Leonard, the assistant weapons officer on the USS John Warner — one of the Virginia-class submarines based in Norfolk — told the Virginian-Pilot that many sailors found the joystick clunky to hold and hard to use.The solution? Integrate a tool that nearly every American kid uses on a daily basis.According to WRC-TV, the controllers are more than just functional. The Xbox controllers will set the Navy back about apiece, while the old system cost nearly ,000.Alex Hider is a writer for the E.W. Scripps National Desk. Follow him on Twitter @alexhider. 1180

The pandemic has added extra stress to our lives, but that's not stopping some of us from getting more sleep.New research from the University of Colorado Boulder and the University of Washington looked at how stay-at-home orders and social distancing guidelines have impacted college students' sleeping habits. They found that on average, students have been sleeping 30 minutes more per weekday and 24 minutes more per weekend day. They've also been keeping more consistent sleep schedules. This is similar to what a study of people ages 18 to 65 in Europe found during this same time. So, the big question now is whether these habits will continue now that stay at home orders are lifted.“One of the things we recognize is that when people who weren't getting enough sleep start to actually get better sleep because they can and they realize ‘wow that makes a difference in my life,’ a number of people choose behaviorally to go ahead and continue to get that better sleep,” said Ken Wright, integrative physiology professor at CU Boulder. As for the question about whether the quality of our sleep has improved, the study in Europe did look at that. It found on average, people have been seeing slight reductions in the quality of their sleep, but there are things you can do to help with this.“When they looked at the group as a whole, they found that those people who got exercise and got more sunlight during the COVID stay-at-home, they found that they actually had less reductions in their sleep quality,” said Wright. One negative result of the stay-at-home orders on our sleep in both studies – people have been going to bed later, both during the week and on weekends. Researchers say it will probably be healthier for us if we can start going to bed earlier now. 1776

The Louisville police detective that Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron said appeared to have fired the fatal shot at Breonna Taylor back in March is reportedly seeking ,000 through an online fundraiser so he can retire.According to the Louisville Courier-Journal, Det. Myles Cosgrove, one of three Louisville police officers who shot into Taylor's apartment, is seeking funds on the crowdfunding site GiveSendGo.Cosgrove's attorney, Jarrod Beck, confirmed to CNN that Cosgrove's family members set up the page.According to the fundraiser's description, the page was set up to ensure Cosgrove can "purchase the remainder of his service time so that he can retire.""Myles’ reputation has been completely dismantled and the psychological trauma is something that he will have to cope with for the rest of his life," the fundraiser description reads. "Every day, the threats seem more legitimate and scarier; his family has been doxed and harassed, while the threats remain unrelenting. Although Myles may never feel completely safe again, if you can help us reach our goal, we can at least get him on a path to security and allow him to focus on his main objective: the safety of his family."The fundraiser's goal was set to ,000 and, as of Thursday afternoon, had raised over ,000.A grand jury announced Monday that Cosgrove and Jonathan Mattingly were "justified" in using lethal force because they were fired upon first. 1444
