ELIZABETH, N.J. -- Following the announcement of a New York state park in her name, iconic transgender civil rights activist Marsha P. Johnson will be honored in her hometown of Elizabeth, New Jersey.Johnson's family was joined by Union County Freeholders Sergio Granados, Rebecca Williams and LGBTQ+ advocates to announce the future site of a public monument on Freedom Trail in Johnson’s honor.The city said the monument is "anticipated to be the first public monument in the State of New Jersey to honor a LGBTQ+ person and transgender woman of color."Elizabeth also announced that they will be holding a series of events during LGBTQ History Month in October to "engage with the community and the public to participate in the planning and creating of the historic project."Johnson died in 1992 at age 46. ENCINITAS (KGTV)-- An Encinitas man is warning other pet parents of the dangers hidden at dog parks, one almost killing his fur baby Kelly.They were at Power Lines Dog Park Thursday evening, as usual, and something caught Kelly's sniffer."She would not stop searching through there," her owner James McDonald said. She was digging in the bushes, then stopped, craddling her foot.He thought, being an active dog as she is, she strained herself."I picked her up and carried her to the car... When I got her home she couldn't even walk," he said, "So I put her in our bed and just sacrificed the duvet, she can puke all over my duvet that's okay."He said it was extreme, and violent. He was terrified she would choke on her own vomit, so he compressed her chest each time to ensure she could breathe in air.He said she was completely limp. An hour of this goes by, then she started coming around, sort of."She would come to conscious with fear in her eyes, not knowing where she was, who she was or what was happening?" McDonald said.James knew she was poisoned but didn't want to take her to the vet."I wanted her to die comfortably, I'm sorry," he said choking back tears, "I wanted her to die comfortably in my arms, not in a cage with a needle stuck in her arm."That night his son found a bit of brownie on her paw, leading them to believe she found and ate a pot brownie.His sons had an idea of how it got there, "one son said he actually has hidden them in the park, another son said he's found them in the park."The whole incident drove McDonald to post on the Nextdoor app, to warn neighbors. He swore to never come back to that dog park, and only returned to tell his story of warning.The VCA said they've seen many more accidental poisonings since the legalization of pot in California. The San Diego Humane Society said pet parents need to lock up drugs in their home. McDonald said fellow pet lovers should also keep a watchful eye over their fur babies. 1991

ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) -- Nearly 5,000 runners woke up early Sunday morning to enjoy a run with a view of the ocean. Runners laced up for the second ever Encinitas half-marathon. The course took runners through Leucadia, Encinitas, Cardiff and Solana Beach. Seven and a half miles of running with a gorgeous view of the ocean. Nearly ,000 worth of prizes were up for grabs for the fastest runners. Proceeds from the half-marathon go to help local ocean conservation projects. The winner finished in an hour and seven minutes.  559

ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) - A North County school district said it was hacked last week, forcing them to shut down parts of their network during registration week.The San Dieguito Union High School District sent out an email to parents on Thursday alerting them to “an attempted malware attack” on August 9.While they called it “attempted,” Superintendent Robert Haley confirmed to 10News that district IT employees detected malware implanted in the district’s system. However, Haley assured parents that no data had been viewed or taken from their network.As of Thursday, the parent portal remained shut down, which is where parents were supposed to input information for the start of the school year.In the email to parents, Haley said the portal would remain unavailable through the weekend. They have extended the deadline for parents to submit the required information.“SDUHSD is sorry for the inconvenience, however, protecting student and staff privacy is of the utmost importance,” wrote Haley. 1009

FALLBROOK, Calif. (KGTV) – The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a shooting in Fallbrook that left a person dead late Thursday night.The shooting was reported at around 10:30 p.m. in the 600 block of South Vine Street.Responding deputies arrived to find a person suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The shooting victim, who was not identified, was declared dead at the scene.Investigators are trying to determine the events that led up to the shooting.A description of the suspected shooter was not immediately available.
