A night of excess at a Pittsburgh apartment ended with three people dead, four people hospitalized and a police department warning how quickly drugs can kill.Authorities responded to a report of an unconscious man in an apartment complex elevator around 2 a.m. Sunday. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, Pittsburgh Director of Public Safety Wendell Hissrich said.Shortly later, paramedics responded to another man a few blocks away, outside, who was "somewhat conscious" and had symptoms similar to those of the first man. A Texas police officer shot his adult son Saturday, thinking he was an intruder.Dispatchers received a call around 6 p.m. CDT from a man reporting a shooting at his home. The man said he was an off-duty Dallas officer who mistook his son for an intruder and accidentally shot him, according to a release from the DeSoto Police Department. DeSoto is a city south of Dallas.When officers arrived on scene, they found the victim bleeding from his right forearm. Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, many schools are closing. Teachers across the country are getting creative, even taking their classrooms remote. Many schools across the country have canceled classes, but not all. Some have asked students to take their learning into their homes. One Colorado charter school is making it all happen and finding some benefits in the process. Math teacher Marilyn Hartzell has turned her kitchen into an at-home classroom.“Our group of schools decided that we would try to teach online,” Hartzell said.The school sent students home with Chrome Books in order to continue their education online.Aside from the location, the school day looks very much the same. Instead of classrooms, students are jumping from one Google chat class to the next.“I think for right now, because this is super new, the engagement is super high,” Hartzell said.There are some benefits about teaching remote.“It takes a lot longer to set up these assignments online, but in the end, the grading part and the ability to analyze the skills and what the kids are understanding is a lot faster,” Hartzell said.With technology comes challenges. After years of looking for greener alternatives to its paper cup — which is lined with plastic — Starbucks is testing out something new.The company announced on Wednesday that it is testing out a compostable cup in five locations — New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver and London. Starbucks showed one of the cups being tested during its annual shareholder meeting on Wednesday.The new cup looks just like Starbucks' current paper cup. The difference is inside, where instead of a plastic liner, a biodegradable liner serves as a barrier to make sure liquid doesn't leak out.
