MISSOURI (KMOV) -- A state representative from western Missouri wants to ban porn access for everyone in the state unless you pay up.Representative Jim Neely (R-Cameron) says the idea behind his bill is simple: protecting kids.The bill says a distributor who makes or sells a product that is accessible to the internet, like a phone or a computer would be required to install a blocking software that would prevent the device from accessing obscene material.Neely says it would apply to all porn. A person could have the blocking software removed if they prove they are more 18-years-old and pays a deactivation fee. The money would go into a fund called the “Human Trafficking and Child Exploitation Prevention Fund.”When pressed on how the blocking software would work, Neely said it would be similar to how schools block students from websites, but when pressed he admitted, he wasn’t sure of the logistics.“I’m a physician, I don’t know computers,” said Neely in a phone interview.Cindy Wallace is the manager of Simple Pleasures Boutique in south St. Louis. They have a large adult video collection.“I just don’t see how they would be able to do it number one and number two, I think there are more things in every single state to worry about besides people watching porn,” said Wallace.The ACLU of Missouri said the bill adds an “unreliable and unconstitutional filter.”“While this legislation may seem like a way to make communities safer, it will cause more harm than good by censoring constitutionally protected speech and creating far-reaching, long-term consequences when it comes to Missourians’ privacy,” said Jeffrey Mittman, executive director, ACLU of Missouri“This bill will invade the privacy of Missourians who have not engaged in any criminal act.”The bill says if a distributor fails to block the prohibited sites, they could face a civil lawsuit.News 4 asked Attorney General Josh Hawley about the proposed legislation but he said he would have to read up on it.Nearly identical legislation was introduced in Alabama and Rhode Island.The bill has not yet gone to committee. 2112

NBC weatherman Al Roker announced Friday that he is battling prostate cancer.Roker, 66, made the announcement live on the air on Friday, adding that he is "going to be OK.""It's a good news-bad news kind of thing," Roker said on the Today Show. "Good news is we caught it early. Not great news is that it's a little aggressive, so I'm going to be taking some time off to take care of this."NBC says Roker will undergo surgery in New York next week at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.Roker added that he went public with his diagnosis because he wanted to highlight the dangers the disease poses to American men. One in nine men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetimes. MOHEGAN LAKE, N.Y. — Angelina Friedman, a 102-year-old nursing home resident, recently survived her second bout with COVID-19, according to her daughter Joanne Merola."Not only has she beaten COVID at 101, she's beaten it at 102," Merola said.Friedman also has the unique distinction of living through two global pandemics.During the 1918 pandemic, Angelina Sciales was born on a passenger ship taking immigrants from Italy to New York City."She was born on a ship coming from Italy during the Spanish flu," Merola said earlier this year. "Her birthday was Oct. 18, 1918."Angelina's mother died giving birth on the ship."She was helped by her two sisters," Merola said of her mother.When Angelina's father reunited with his daughters in New York, he took them to live in Brooklyn."She was one of 11 children," Merola said. "She's the last one surviving."Angelina eventually married a man named Harold Friedman. The couple battled cancer later in life, but only Angelina overcame the disease.She's lost most of her hearing and her vision is bad, but she's retained her zest for life.Friedman, a resident of the North Westchester Restorative Therapy and Nursing Center, battled COVID-19 most recently in October, according to her daughter.Her first bout with the virus happened in March when she was taken to the hospital for a minor medical procedure.When she initially tested positive for COVID-19, the procedure was postponed and Friedman spent a week in the hospital. She then returned to the nursing home and was isolated in her room.After running a fever on and off for several weeks, Friedman finally tested negative for coronavirus on April 20.At the time, Friedman's daughter received a late-night phone call from nurses. They said Friedman was doing great, that she was eating again and looking for yarn for crocheting."My mother is a survivor," Merola said in April. "She survived miscarriages, internal bleeding and cancer."Six months after that first COVID-19 diagnosis, Friedman's daughter said she received a call from the nursing home in late October, "to tell me she tested positive again.""She had symptoms — fever, a dry cough," Merola said. "...they gave her a bunch of meds. They thought she might also have the flu."More staff and residents at the nursing home were getting sick, according to Merola, so the older residents were put in isolation.Merola said she got daily updates on the situation, and on Nov. 17 she received great news."My invincible mother tested negative," she said.After another test came back negative, Friedman was moved out of isolation and back into her regular room.Merola said she attributes her mother's survival to "an iron will to live.""She's not the oldest to survive COVID, but she may be the oldest to survive it twice," she said.This story was originally published by Mary Murphy on WPIX in New York City. 2868

More than 100 law enforcement agencies have withdrawn from helping the Milwaukee Police Department at the Democratic National Convention, three weeks before the big event. According to the police chief, the agencies cited concerns over potential new policies related to crowd control.The Milwaukee Police Department requested the help of more than 1,000 officers from other law enforcement departments for security at the Democratic National Convention. Even though the event will be scaled-down at the Wisconsin Center due to the COVID-19 pandemic, losing many of these officers will make things more complex for Milwaukee police.Chief Alfonso Morales now has to deal with a new task with only three weeks until the DNC.He could not reveal the number of officers he’s lost for security reasons but says the reason agencies pulled out of the convention has to do with the Fire and Police Commission directives given to him last week related to crowd control. Specifically, they’re concerned over the directive to discontinue the use of tear gas and large amounts of pepper spray.“When you rule an unlawful assembly to help break up that crowd, once we deem them unruly, that’s a safe manner in doing so. Not having those tools increases the potential for more violence,” Morales said. “That’s a big concern for the law enforcement community within Milwaukee and outside of Milwaukee.”This is how the departments in West Allis, Fond du Lac and Franklin feel.
