SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police are searching for an at-risk teenager who disappeared from the Carmel Valley area on Sunday.Police say Nevaeh "Marie" Corbin, 14, was last seen at about 1:30 p.m. leaving her home on Sunday in the Carmel Valley area. Police say Corbin left on foot and said she was going for a walk at an unknown location. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County Supervisors and health officials use 13 "triggers" to monitor coronavirus case trends and determine how public health orders are made.The triggers measure how the county's coronavirus cases are increasing or decreasing, hospital capacity, and the region's ability to track and monitor cases. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Researchers at UC San Diego Health are now looking for volunteers to participate in a COVID-19 clinical trial, starting locally next week.Oxford-AstraZeneca’s vaccine clinical trials will take place in 36 states across the country.“This is the second vaccine trial for the prevention of COVID-19, and like the first, it is a trial of 30,000 individuals nationally,” said Dr. Susan Little, a professor of Medicine and UCSD and the lead on this trial.Little said UCSD researchers hope to enroll about 1,600 people in eight weeks to participate in the trial.“Eighteen or older, in generally good health, but with underlying conditions that put them at greater risk for COVID-19,” she said. “Or people with increased risk of acquiring COVID-19 because of their professions or where they live.”Little said a bus would act as a mobile vaccine clinic. The bus will stop in parking lots in communities that have been historically underrepresented in medical research or disproportionately affected by COVID-19.“We’re going to focus on communities most impacted, the South Bay, East County, underserved communities and communities that have been hardest hit by COVID-19 those with the highest rate of infection in the community,” she said. “It’s a series of two vaccines, a month apart, people will be prescreened over the phone, and then they’ll be vaccinated on day one and day 29. Then they’ll be followed for two years thereafter.”In Phase 1 and Phase 2 clinical trials, Little said the vaccine proved to be safe.“We know that it’s safe in the sense that it causes local tenderness, some mild fatigue headache. Side effects went away in about one week,” she said. “This will be placebo-controlled, so I won’t know, and the participants won’t know whether they got a vaccine or placebo.”She said for every one person who gets the placebo, two people will get the vaccine.If people develop COVID-19 symptoms during the trial, two other mobile wellness clinics will be available for treatment.“Anybody who develops symptoms that are worrisome to COVID, we will come see them in our wellness vehicles and test them for COVID. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County leaders announced Tuesday that churches will be allowed to reopen Wednesday if they have a plan posted and follow newly-released state guidelines. The county said San Diego County's Public Health Officer does not have to approve the plans. "We know that practicing and sharing your faith is important, but we want to make sure we keep everyone safe," said Greg Cox, San Diego County Supervisor.The news follows a state announcement Monday that churches will be allowed to reopen with certain restrictions. Newsom releases updated guidelines for reopening of California churchesSome of the guidelines include limiting attendance to 25 percent of building capacity or 100 attendees, whichever is lower, and arranging for social distancing. Arthur Hodges, the senior pastor at South Bay United Pentecostal Church, is still in a legal battle with the state over restrictions. He said the state's stay-at-home order and restrictions violate religious right and discriminate against houses of worship."This church behind me seats over 600 people," said Hodges. "I could probably come back with a 30 to 50 percent capacity."After being denied in federal court and the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, Hodges is taking his fight to the Supreme Court, for one main reason."We've got to prevent this from happening in the future," he said. "We need those limits established now that government is not encroaching on our religious rights."His church plans to resume in-person service on Sunday."We are not putting any pressure on anyone to come to church until they want to come, ready to come, comfortable in coming," he explained.Churches will be allowed to reopen beginning midnight Wednesday, according to the county. This could include limiting speeches, asking congregants/visitors to put on garments at home before arrival, etc.Close places of worship for visitation outside of scheduled services, meetings, etc., whenever possible.Discontinue large gatherings that encourage congregants/visitors to travel and break physical distances during activities, such as concerts, large holiday and life event celebrations and remembrances.Close children's play areas and discontinue activities and services for children where physical distancing of at least 6 feet cannot be maintained.Prop or hold doors open during peak periods when congregants/visitors are entering and exiting facilities, if possible and in accordance with security and safety protocols.Close or restrict common areas, such as break rooms, kitchenettes, foyers, etc. where people are likely to congregate and interact.Reconfigure podiums and speaker areas, office spaces, meeting rooms, conference rooms, etc., to allow for at least 6 feet between people.Face coverings are strongly recommended at all times for congregants/visitors and staff.Establish directional hallways and passageways for foot traffic, if possible, and designate separate routes for entry and exit into meeting rooms, offices, etc., to help maintain physical distancing and lessen the instances of people closely passing each other.Close self-service item selection such as pamphlet displays and bookshelves and provide these items to congregants/visitors individually as necessary.Consider limiting the number of people that use the restroom at one time to allow for physical distancing.Discourage staff, congregants, visitors, etc., from engaging in handshakes, hugs, and similar greetings that break physical distance.Reconfigure parking lots to limit congregation points and ensure proper separation (e.g., closing every other space).Discontinue offering self-service food and beverages. Do not hold potlucks or similar family-style eating and drinking events that increase the risk of cross contamination.Strongly consider discontinuing singing, group recitation, and other practices and performances where there is increased likelihood for transmission from contaminated exhaled droplets.Consider modifying practices that are specific to particular faith traditions that might encourage the spread of COVID-19. Examples are discontinuing kissing of ritual objects, allowing rites to be performed by fewer people, avoiding the use of a common cup, offering communion in the hand instead of on the tongue, providing pre-packed communion items on chairs prior to service, etc. 4517

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police have released video footage after officers shot and killed a murder suspect following a standoff on May 29.The 32-year-old suspect who was shot and killed was accused of shooting and killing another man at a City Heights apartment complex.The video shows officer stationed outside the apartment complex. Watch the full video below:According to police, gunfire was reported at the complex on the 3800 block of Euclid Avenue around 3:30 p.m.Officers later found a 62-year-old Hispanic man with at least one gunshot wound. The man was treated before being pronounced dead.Officers were then directed to a nearby complex where the suspect was believed to be hiding while a SWAT team arrived.RELATED: San Diego police officers shoot, kill murder suspect following standoff in City Heights"The suspect walked half way down the stairs towards the officers' positions and challenged them to come get him before retreating back into his apartment," police said.The man then descended back down the stairs towards officers."When the suspect had descended half way down the stairs, he extended a pistol in the direction of the officers. Three officers fired their weapons at the suspect, striking him several times," a San Diego Police Department statement said. "Specially trained STAR medics deployed with the SWAT team to provide aid, but the suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. A firearm and a knife were recovered."Earlier in the week, the suspect’s mother reportedly contacted police after he threatened her with a firearm.Police say the women told investigators her son wanted to be involved in a shooting with police and to commit “suicide by cop.” 1700
