BRADFORD, England – An intensive care unit doctor in England ran about 22 miles in a mask to show people that face coverings won’t hinder their oxygen levels.Dr. Tom Lawton says he was upset about the misinformation going around about oxygen levels and masks, so he wanted to demonstrate how safe it is himself."I was frustrated because I've seen some photos where people who sat at a desk wearing a mask and claimed that the oxygen levels dropped just simply wearing a mask," Lawton told CNN in an interview Sunday.During his run to and from work, Lawton used a pulse oximeter to measure his oxygen levels, which he says were “stubbornly” 98% every time he checked, and his mask never came off.The mask didn't come off at all (no food or drink) - and oxygen levels were stubbornly 98% every time I checked. Please feel free to cite this when anyone suggests they're bad for you, and stay safe - and COVID-free.Thanks! https://t.co/ApgpoOTZCz (n/n)— Tom Lawton (@LawtonTri) July 20, 2020 In an interview with CTV News, Lawton said any oxygen level above 95% would be considered normal and safe.Lawton admits that wearing the mask wasn’t always comfortable during his journey, but he argues that it’s worth it to keep yourself and those around you safe.Lawton told CNN that he doesn’t think masks alone are going to solve the COVID-19 pandemic, but they should be worn in public, we should practice social distancing and we should practice good hand hygiene to help stop the spread of the novel coronavirus. As if spreading the message about mask wearing wasn’t enough, Lawton is also using his media attention to raise money for Trussel Trust, which operates food banks in the U.K. 1688

According to GivingTuesday.org, the event was celebrated in more than 150 countries in 2018, leading to more than 0 million raised for charity by 3.6 million people. In 2019, Giving Tuesday was spun off into its own organization, and now offers social media toolkits and other resources to nonprofits ahead of the holiday, If you'd like to participate in Giving Tuesday, click here to find a nonprofit or charity that's holding an event near you.Alex Hider is a writer for the E.W. Bill Cosby's sentencing hearing is set for September 24 and 25, according to a court order from Judge Steven O'Neill.Cosby was found guilty last month of three counts of aggravated indecent assault for drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand at his home in a Philadelphia suburb in 2004.The 80-year-old comedian faces up to 10 years in prison on each count, although the actual sentence is likely to be much shorter."He was convicted of three counts of (indecent assault), so technically that would be up to 30 years," Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele said after the verdict. "However, we have to look at a merger of those counts to determine what the final maximum will be."Some legal experts have said they do not think Cosby will spend any time behind bars. His defense team has said it will appeal the guilty verdict, and it is possible that O'Neill will allow Cosby to remain on house arrest until that appeal is resolved. For now, Cosby is not permitted to leave his Pennsylvania home. If he does leave the state for another home, it would have to be arranged ahead of time, and he would have to wear a GPS monitoring device, the judge ruled.Janice Baker-Kinney, who testified that Cosby drugged and raped her in 1982, said he should spend time in prison."I believe that it's essential he spend time in jail, and it wouldn't break my heart to see him spend the rest of his life in jail," Baker-Kinney said after the verdict. In general, judges can take any number of factors into account when issuing a sentence. Cosby's age, his health, the philanthropic work he's done over the last several decades and his lack of prior criminal convictions are all likely to be considered in deciding the sentence.Cosby's guilty verdict was the first criminal conviction of a high-profile celebrity since the rise of the #MeToo movement, which has forced a public reckoning with influential men accused of abusing their power.  1956

BRISTOL, Wis. — The heaviest pumpkin weighed in Wisconsin this year so far is 2,015 pounds. At one point during its peak growth stage, it was growing 52 pounds a day and the vines grew nearly a foot a day.The honor of most gargantuan gourd belongs to Jim Ford, who has been growing preposterous pumpkins for more than 20 years."I've always loved pumpkins. Pumpkins do something to me - I don’t know the little boy in me. I love growing things. I love growing pumpkins. I love growing all types of produce: tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, so it just takes a passion of mine growing things and turning it into a sport," he said. 632

The U.S. population as of Saturday was about 331 million, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The United States accounts for about 4% of the world’s population, but close to 24% of its total coronavirus cases and 19% of its COVID-19 deaths.
