SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The mountain lion euthanized by California Department of Fish and Wildlife wardens is the same animal responsible for attacking a boy at Los Pe?asquitos Canyon Preserve, CDFW announced Friday. The 4-year-old boy was among 11 people hiking the North San Diego County trail Memorial Day when the 80-pound female mountain lion attacked him. Wardens who went to the scene found the animal’s tracks and encountered it moments later. The mountain lion appeared to have little fear of humans: an abnormal behavior, CDFW said. RELATED: Boy attacked by mountain lion in San Diego's Los Pe?asquitos Canyon“The wildlife officers immediately killed the animal to ensure public safety and to collect forensic evidence to potentially match the mountain lion to the victim,” said CDFW officials in a news release. City park officials closed the trail for the public’s safety. DNA analysis from the boy and samples from the animal confirmed the euthanized mountain lion was responsible for injuring the boy. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Surveillance video caught on team of thieves targeting a home in Point Loma. The home sits on a street just off Catalina boulevard. Last Thursday, just before 8 p.m., an SUV is seen driving up and then driving away. 12 minutes later, it's back. This time, it parks. As the camera switches to night vision, three figures emerge. On the side of the home, they are seen hunting for a way in. The dual-pane sliding door in the kitchen is later found shattered. The next time they are seen, the three burglars wearing hoodies are scrambling out of the home, two of them carrying safes. Once they reach the SUV, they toss the safes into the back and take off. Inside the safes: a partial coin collection and dozens of pieces of jewelry, many of them family heirlooms. "I'm angry amd there is a feeling of being empty," said David, who asked 10news not to identify him. One of the stolen pieces is an opal-and-diamond necklace belonging to David's 90-year-old mother, who is living with dementia. She helped design the piece to celebrate her journey from file clerk to business owner at the same business. "Something missing you can't replace ... My mother became a success in a man's world. Very proud of her," said David, choking back tears. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Crimestoppers at 888-580-8477. 1347

Tuesday, he categorized the indictment as a "politically motivated" attack."We’re excited about going to trial with this, frankly," Hunter said of the indictment. "This is modern politics and modern media mixed in with law enforcement that has a political agenda. That’s the new Department of Justice."The affidavit says the Hunters overdrew their bank account more than 1,100 times, resulting in bank overdraft fees of about ,761.RELATED: San Diego Congressman Duncan Hunter addresses federal indictment in 10News interviewAs the U.S. Representative for District 50, Hunter has an annual salary of 4,000, according to ballotpedia.org. 2283

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The eight-legged population is overrunning parts of Balboa Park a bit earlier than usual this year.Spider season is in full bloom in San Diego. From Rancho Penasquitos to downtown, people say they are finding webs just about everywhere including hiking trailsOne person wrote on a local Reddit thread they stopped hiking because there were so many webs.Chris Conlan works with San Diego County Vector Control and says there's nothing on usual with what folks are seeing.“They hatch out in the spring and they’re small and make very small webs,” said Conlan. "But as they begin to grow over the course of the summer and beginning of fall where we are right now, they’re much larger they tend to spin bigger webs and those are they kind of webs people walk into freak out and do the spider dance."Conlan says the webs people are bumping into on trails are likely orb weavers’. They are poisonous, but their venom is not toxic to humans like other spiders.“It’s really just the black and the brown widow that people need to worry about and they tend to spin more out of the way webs in corners and dark places," said Conlan. "They’re not the type of web you’re just going to go walking through."Conlan’s advice for folks’ encountering spider’s homes is as good anyone’s.“Carry a stick in front of you,” said Conlan with a laugh. "And be prepared to wipe web off your face from time to time.” 1420

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The County of San Diego has spent nearly million to support migrants after the federal government ended the Safe Release Program, according to county officials.Flights carrying between 120 to 135 people are now flying from Texas to San Diego to relieve the processing backlog in the Rio Grande Valley sector in Texas. That sector is 200 percent over capacity, according to acting San Diego Border Patrol Chief Doug Harrison. So far, 10News has confirmed at least two flights have arrived in San Diego. It is not clear how many migrants, if any, will ultimately need county support. This latest round of migrants from Texas are first processed through Border Patrol before Immigration and Customs Enforcement takes over the processing. ICE told Team 10 custody is determined on a "case-by-case basis."Organizations like the San Diego County Rapid Response Network along with the County have stepped in since the end of the Safe Release Program. The program provided asylum seekers resources like transportation until their scheduled immigration court appearance. In a federal lawsuit filed in April, the County blamed the federal government saying "the County has suffered" and the move has "unfairly shifted the... burdens to the County and its residents."RELATED: Border officials say migrants from Texas being transferred to San DiegoProjected county costs for supporting migrant services totaled more than .65 million. That amount was through May 3rd. Here is the breakdown:- ,014,570 for contracted health services through UCSD- 1,676 for Health and Human Services Agency staff salary/benefits- ,392 for County Department of General Services staff support- ,640 for interpreters- ,965 for contracted nurse- ,743 for County Public Safety Group's Office of Emergency Services staff support- ,045 for pharmaceuticals- ,103 for various supplies and equipmentAs of late Monday afternoon, Supervisor Dianne Jacob said the latest amount is actually closer to million. She released this statement to Team 10:“I am deeply concerned that flying in hundreds of migrant families will put an even greater strain on San Diego non-profits, agencies and taxpayers. Immigration is clearly the responsibility of the federal government, but now it’s sticking San Diego County with the bill. Since the opening of an emergency shelter downtown in October, the county has had to spend nearly million to screen and process some 14,000 asylum seekers. Local taxpayers should not be on the hook for this.”It is unclear how long the migrant flights from Texas to San Diego will last. 2624
