STILLWATER, Okla. — At Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, officials on Monday confirmed 23 positive cases of COVID-19 at an off-campus sorority house.All of the students living in the house were placed in isolation and are prohibited from leaving the facility, the university said in a statement.“Due to the nature of this situation, the entire chapter house is in isolation or quarantine and will be prohibited from leaving the facility,” the university wrote. “One member of the sorority who lives elsewhere is among those who tested positive and will also remain in isolation.”All involved are being monitored by OSU and the Payne County Health Department. SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y. -- Dozens of people tested positive for the coronavirus and hundreds were quarantined after an outbreak in Suffolk County, New York, linked to a sweet 16 party, County Executive Steve Bellone said Tuesday.The party took place at the Miller Place Inn on Sept. 25, with a guest list of 81 people.The Miller Place Inn was fined ,000 for violating state executive orders and health laws, and ,000 for violating county rules.Several positive COVID-19 cases in the Sachem School District were reported to the county on Sept. 30, and during the course of their investigation, the county discovered that the cases were connected to the sweet 16 party.Following a contact tracing investigation, the county identified 37 positive cases connected to the party; 270 people were told to quarantine.It's the first time a businesses was fined by the Suffolk County Health Department over COVID-19-related violations.Bellone said that for the county, this qualifies as a super spreader event.“This was an egregious violation and should serve as a stark reminder of the consequences that exist for flouting COVID-19 protocols,” said Bellone. “These rules and regulations exist for a reason - to keep New Yorkers safe - and we all have an obligation to act responsibly.”This story was originally published by Corey Crockett at WPIX. 1348

TAMPA, Fla. — Police say that street racing led to the death of a mother struck by a vehicle while pushing her child in a stroller in Tampa, Florida. Three people have been arrested.According to Tampa Police, two cars were street racing down Bayshore Boulevard on Wednesday afternoon when one of the vehicles struck the mother and child near W. Knights Avenue in Tampa.Tampa police say the mother, 24-year-old Jessica Reisinger, and the 2-year-old child were sent to the hospital with serious injuries. Reisinger died at the hospital and the 2-year-old is currently in serious condition.  616

Synthetic cannabinoids — often called Spice, K2 or fake weed — have been tied to 38 cases of severe bleeding, including one death, across Chicago and areas in central Illinois.All of those cases required hospitalization related to coughing up blood, blood in the urine, bloody nose, bleeding gums and other symptoms. Three cases tested positive for brodifacoum, or rat poison, according to a statement from the Illinois Department of Public Health on Saturday.Now, state officials are working to identify any common synthetic cannabinoid products related to those cases and to determine where the products were obtained.There are still many questions about the outbreak that need answers."This is the first time we've seen an outbreak of this magnitude in the area," Melaney Arnold, a spokeswoman for the Illinois Department of Public Health, said Monday."We're working with numerous different partners across the city and state as we investigate this outbreak," she said.Synthetic cannabinoids are sold in convenience stores, gas stations, drug paraphernalia shops, novelty stores and even online.Health officials warn that anyone who has a reaction to synthetic cannabinoids immediately should call 911 or be taken to an emergency department. 1267
