California Pizza Kitchen locations are holding a "Pizza with a Purpose" event in honor of California Highway Patrol Officer Andre Moye Jr.'s family on Tuesday. Twenty percent of proceeds from sales on Tuesday will be donated to a fund created in Officer Moye's memory.CPK officials say customers can mention the fundraiser, show a flyer on their phone or bring in a printed version to have a portion of their bill donated. On Aug. 12 around 5:35 p.m., CHP Officer Andre Moye, Jr. stopped the driver of a white GMC pickup for an unknown offense off the 215 Freeway in Riverside. At some point during the traffic stop, Moye decided to impound the man’s vehicle and called for a tow truck.While Moye was filling out paperwork, the man got a rifle from his truck and started shooting at the officer. Moye returned fire, and even though he had been shot, he was able to radio for help. As speculation has grown in recent weeks on the status of this month's NCAA Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments, Sr. Vice President of NCAA Basketball Dan Gavitt said in an interview on Sunday that the NCAA is "definitively planning" on the tournaments being held as scheduled, in front of spectators. The men's basketball tournament will be played in 14 different venues from coast to coast. Most of the venues will be full with 15,000 to 20,000 spectators at any one time. Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, host of this year's Men's Final Four, could see crowds of more than 70,000. Largely, sports in the United States have remained unaffected by the coronavirus, while other major events and concerts have been canceled or postponed nationwide. Sporting events in overseas are opting to take a different direction, as several European leagues are playing matches in closed stadiums. Professional baseball in Japan has been curtailed amid coronavirus fears. One major event that did cancel was the BNB Paribas Open in Palm Springs, California. But the tennis event so far has been an outlier. Gavitt told CBS that the NCAA has an advisory panel that is in contact with the CDC on a daily basis. He said the NCAA's group of experts are monitoring events on a daily basis. "The guidance we're getting from our experts is playing without fans is not called for," Gavitt said on CBS. From 2013 to 2017, the Wall Street Journal reports that 56 percent of people who moved to Henderson came from neighboring California."They're getting houses that they could never afford in California," said Zar Zanganeh, "houses that are on golf courses."Zanganeh is the owner and broker of LUXE Estates & Lifestyles. He's personally witnessed the California migration. A decade ago, roughly a third of his clients were from California. As part of a National Park, the Natchez Trace Parkway Bridge in Williamson County, Tennessee is a beautiful architectural sight for many. But for some, it’s become a place of pain and grief.“I lost my sister, who was 25, to suicide at the bridge,” Sarah Elmer says.Trish Merelo shares Elmer's grief. She, too, lost a family member to suicide. “I lost my 17-year-old son,” she says.Now, Elmer and Merelo have come together over a mutual understanding of how it feels to lose somebody who has died by suicide.“Seeing what a young suicide does to a school, and to a community, and to a neighborhood, and to a family, it’s unimaginable grief,” Merelo says. Merelo’s son, John, was a senior in high school. He was academically gifted and in marching band. His mom describes him as somebody whose heart would make a difference in this world.Elmer’s sister, Danielle, was a mother of two. Elmer describes her sister as smart, caring, and a big mental health advocate.“Now that’s she’s gone, I just don’t have my other half,” she says. The two women are now doing everything they can to prevent other families from feeling the same sorrow. Together, they’ve formed the Natchez Trace Bridge Barrier Coalition.“Ultimately, what stops bridge suicides is a physical structure,” Merelo says. Their goal is to create an 8-foot barrier on the bridge, so it’s not so easy for someone to jump. Until then, they’re thankful for the new call boxes that were recently planted on the bridge by the National Park Service. The call boxes offer a direct line to 911 and the Tennessee crisis number.“I think the crisis line is more for someone who is in that place and needs that counseling," Merelo says. "I think 911 is for them too, but that’s also for bystanders who see someone in trouble and want to get authorities here."With barely any cell service in the area, the women say the call boxes are essential, and they hope they’ll make a big difference for people in need. “If that call box saves one life, then it is worth it,” Elmer says.
