Graham says he hopes to have the confirmation hearing process wrapped up by Thursday.Democrats warn of loss of health careSeveral Democrats noted that in the past, President Donald Trump has only promised to nominate justices who will undo the Affordable Care Act — the law that enacted public health care and offered more consumer protections. Other Democrats said their time would be better spent working on passing more COVID-19 stimulus — something Trump has been willing to entertain in recent days.Republicans defend Barrett's character, call out those questioning her faithRepublicans defended Barrett's character by accusing Democrats of attacking her Catholic faith, often pointing to constitutional statues against "religious tests" as a qualifier for public office. Sen Josh Hawley, R-Missouri, specifically accused Harris of "anti-Catholic bigotry" by questioning past judiciary appointments fitness for office due to their membership in the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic organization.Sen. Joni Ernst, R-IA, further defended Barrett's character against those who she says had labeled her a "handmaid," saying that such accusations were "demeaning to women.""We don't have to fit a narrow definition of womanhood," Ernst said. At this point, Republican Senators have the votes to confirm Barrett. Graham has said he expects the process to be finished in the next two weeks — about seven days ahead of election day.Barrett pays homage to Scalia, GinsburgIn her opening statement, which was obtained and published by several media outlets, Barrett paid tribute to the late Justice Antonin Scalia — a conservative icon for whom Barrett worked for as a clerk early in her career. When approaching someone about their views on COVID-19, and their habits, he said it’s best to remain calm and open-minded.“It is throwing everyone for a loop,” Stanfield said, “So instead of saying that you’re really getting worked up about this, that’s probably not the best initial approach. It may be ‘I can see that this is really upsetting to you, can you tell me a little bit more about that?'”He said trying to understand, before attempting to be understood, is a good starting place. “Am I willing to consider their perspective, or am I in this to prove them wrong? Which in the end gets us nowhere in all of this, so I think those basic things are really important and critical.”If you know why someone’s habits are a certain way, it’s possible to compromise.“I know some people say compromise is a dirty word, in this case, I think compromise really gets at the fact that I’m wanting to meet someone or be a part of someone’s life the best I can," Stanfield said.If the social awkwardness persists, a ton of people is going to therapy to sort it out right now.“I sometimes equate therapy to taking your car in to get an oil change. (KGTV) — Mar Vista High School operated under heightened security Tuesday due to a possible threat.Instruction continued in classrooms but Mar Vista's doors were kept locked as part of the security measures, according to Manuel Rubio, public information officer with Sweetwater Union High School District.The campus resumed normal operations just before 1 p.m.The school district was working with the San Diego Sheriff's Department to investigate a possible threat posted to social media, Rubio said.The threat was later determined to be unfounded, though the campus would have increased security through the day, according to Rubio. 679

House Democrats are expected to retain a majority of US House seats in 2021, but with a smaller margin. The leader of the House Democrats, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, said on Wednesday the election was “challenging” in a letter to colleagues.As of Wednesday evening, House Republicans have netted five seats by flipping seven Democratic seats. Democrats flipped two previously held Republican seats.All seven of the House Democrats that lost were representatives who only served one term in Congress.
