President Donald Trump is slated to give his first public on-camera comments in a week as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage and his legal team seeks to overturn the results of the 2020 election.Trump's comments came during a press conference to announce two new regulations issued by his administration in an attempt to lower prescription drug prices.According to The Associated Press, one of the regulations ties the cost of drugs administered in a doctor's office to the cost of drugs abroad. The other regulation requires that rebates for drug companies for medicines prescribed to Medicare recipients go directly to patients.It's unclear if the incoming Biden administration will keep the policy or chose to roll them back."I hope they keep them," Trump said.Trump did not answer questions following the remarks.Trump, who usually makes himself readily available to pool reporters at the White House, has held just a handful on-camera events since election night — one of which was a Veterans Day appearance at Arlington National Cemetery. He has not fielded questions from reporters directly since prior to Election Day.Prior to Friday, the last time Trump appeared on camera was Nov. 13, when he delivered remarks from the Rose Garden to tout the success of COVID-19 vaccine development.Trump's remarks came hours after press secretary Kayleigh McEnany holds her first press briefing since Oct. 1 — the day Trump confirmed he had contracted COVID-19. It also comes a day after the White House Coronavirus Task Force held its first press briefing since July.Trump's appearance came as he continues to seek to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. On Thursday, Trump personally called Republican election officials in Wayne County, Michigan, to express his support for their attempt to undo their certification of election results in the county. Also, on Thursday, Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani delivered a lengthy, ranting press conference at which he alleged widespread voter fraud but presented little evidence to support his claims.The president's media brownout comes as COVID-19 spreads in the U.S. at rates not seen since the pandemic began. There's already there’s a law on the books banning officers from putting people in chokeholds, but the city council wants to take things a step further, banning officers from applying pressure or restricting a suspect's diaphragm.“It’s tough right now to be a police officer," said NYPD Chief of Department Terence Monahan. "You have to worry that if a suspect shot at you and you put a knee on his back, that now you become the criminal.”Monahan said these new rules have his officers fighting crime with their hands tied behind their backs.Those in favor say that officers are merely being given a script telling them how to behave in a critical incident. However, there are still those that argue that the city council does not have expertise in police tactics.Even so, the NYPD argues every encounter is different and a blanket law is not the answer. A Florida judge has denied a request for a temporary injunction to block the Palm Beach County mask mandate.Attorneys for a group of Palm Beach County residents filed a lawsuit claiming that the county's emergency order requiring masks in public places to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus was unconstitutional.Judge John Kastrenakes issued his ruling Monday morning."The right to be 'free from governmental intrusion' does not automatically or completely shield an individual's conduct from regulation," Kastrenakes wrote in his 13-page order. "More to the point, constitutional rights and the ideals of limited government do not absolve a cititzen from the real-world consequences of their individual choices, or otherwise allow them to wholly shirk their social obligation to their fellow Americans or to society as a whole. This is particularly true when one's individual choices can result in drastic, costly and sometimes deadly consequences to others."Kastrenakes went on to say that there is no "constitutional or protected right to infect others."Commissioners voted unanimously last month to approve the mask mandate, despite objections from an impassioned group of residents who spoke against such an ordinance.County Administrator Verdenia Baker last week extended the order for an additional 30 days. It now remains in effect until at least Aug. 23.Mayor Dave Kerner said Friday that the county is in the process of mailing about 3 million masks to residents."As this community tries desperately to navigate the tumultuous seas presented by COVID-19, it is reasonable and logical that our elected officials are throwing the citizens of Palm Beach County a lifeline in an attempt to ameliorate the spread of this deadly, unbridled and widespread disease," Kastrenakes concluded. "Based on the evidence, this court will not second guess the manner in which a co-equal branch of government sought to discharge its sacred duty to protect the general public."A statement from the Florida Civil Rights Coalition, which filed the lawsuit on behalf of the plaintiffs, said Kastrenakes "unsurprisingly" denied the motion, "paving the way for continued government tyranny under the guise of disease prevention in Palm Beach County."Attorneys for the plaintiffs argued during a hearing last week that the mask mandate infringes upon their clients' constitutional rights.In their statement, attorneys claim the ruling "disregards fundamental rights like freedom of speech and the right to medical self-determination protected by the Florida Constitution."The Florida Civil Rights Coalition plans to appeal the ruling.
