SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — State officials responded earlier this week to a technical glitch that impacted as many as 300,000 COVID-19 test results being reported."We are committed to the medium and long term to address these foundational data issues so that we can approve our importance and our customer service," Gov. Gavin Newsom said earlier this week. Counties across the state felt the impact of the data inaccuracies. Local leaders use numbers and science to guide decision making. But are counties themselves having any issues with the numbers?In Kern County, public health officials were asked at the end of July if they're 100% sure no one is getting double-counted. The county says they have had to go back and subtract some people from the total number of cases when they realized they counted that person more than once, but stress that's rare.In San Diego and San Luis Obispo Counties, officials said they're confident in the daily numbers they are reporting to the public."I'm quite confident our numbers are accurate. Before we had web CMR and our tests are not all phoned through CalREDIE. Our test results are reported directly to the county," County Public Health Officer Wilma Wooten said. "The only issue which you already know about is the glitch with Quest which was going through the state and then coming to us so we are fairly confident our information is accurate."A spokesperson for San Luis Obispo County says they are confident in the number of positive cases reported:"We regularly run data queries on our positive case results to search for duplicates. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - With regional intensive-care unit capacity still officially considered to be zero, Gov. Gavin Newsom said Monday the regional stay-at-home order imposed by the state for the entirety of Southern California will almost assuredly be extended beyond next week's expiration date."We are likely, I think it's pretty self-evident, going to need to extend those regional dates," Newsom said. "... Based upon all the data and based upon all these trend lines, it is very likely based on those current trends that we'll need to extend that stay at home order, (which) you recall was a three-week order when we announced it."The regional stay-at-home order for the 11-county Southern California region took effect at 11:59 p.m. Dec. 6, and was originally set to end on Dec. 28. Newsom did not give an indication of exactly when a decision on extending the order will be made, or much long the order will remain in place.The Southern California region covers Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Diego, Imperial, Inyo, Mono, San Bernardino, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties. Entertainment production -- including professional sports -- would be allowed to continue without live audiences.Four of the five regions carved out by the state are under stay-at-home orders, covering 98% of the state's population. Only far northern California is not under a stay-at-home order.The order was triggered in each area when the region's ICU bed availability dropped below 15%. As of Monday, the Southern California and San Joaquin Valley regions both had an official ICU bed availability of 0%. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 20-year-old woman died following a shooting that left three others injured at a party in La Jolla Sunday morning, according to San Diego Police. Police were called to the 7500 block of Draper Avenue near Jack in the Box around 12:39 p.m. after reports of shots fired. According to police, partygoers were standing outside a home in the area when a light-colored sedan drove into the alley and shot the victims. When officers arrived, they found a 20-year-old woman and 23-year-old man with gunshot wounds, according to police. Police say both victims were rushed to the hospital where the woman later died. The 23-year-old is in serious but stable condition, police say.Two other victims, both 19-years-old, later showed up at different hospitals with gunshot wounds and are in stable condition, police say. The suspects are still at large and police say they have no description at this time. The victims haven’t been identified. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A first-of-its-kind residential tower opened in San Diego this week.The 300-unit Palisade UTC complex is located right on the Westfield UTC mall's property. It offers an expansive pool, bar area, community room, open-air gym, and a lounge on the 23rd floor, with views to the coast. "The goal was to have multiple spaces, again, that would be like staying at a four or five star resort," said Jerry Brand, executive director of developer Greystar. The building will be among the most expensive in San Diego County.Studios start at ,750 a month, while two-bedroom units start at ,300. The penthouse is advertised for ,000 per month. It also includes 30 affordable units. Analysts say luxury buildings like Palisade can play a role in easing all of the region's housing crunch. "A substantial portion of the people moving into, like, the new projects downtown are actually vacating the older projects and moving up, so the luxury projects that are going up are really helping the housing situation," said Alan Nevin, director of economic research at Xpera Group. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Clairemont man convicted of stabbing his mother to death was sentenced to 26 years to life in prison Friday.Joseph Robert Burks, 31, was convicted in June of first-degree murder in the July 24, 2017, slaying of his 58-year-old mother, Angela Burks, who was a longtime Otay Ranch High School science teacher.Police say Burks used a stun gun to incapacitate his mother, before stabbing her more than 20 times in the head, neck, and throat at the home they shared.RELATED: 499
