Sister Lillia Langreck’s work for much of the last 60 years is something you could see her doing to this very day. She was heavily involved in racial and social justice efforts alongside people like Father James Groppi during the Milwaukee marches for fair housing, integrated busing and more.“You’d never guess their age if you met them,” Sciano said. “Most were up there in their 80s or 90s but honestly, they could run circles around me at times with energy and commitment.”While their lives were devoted to the church, their impact couldn’t be contained to the house of worship.“They’re wonderful women,” Sciano said. “They are mentors and wisdom figures for me and so many of us.”Now, with about a week to go until Christmas, one of the biggest holidays in the Catholic Church, they’ll be celebrating with heavy hearts.“Is there ever an easy time?” Sciano said. “No, no. But we’re trying to celebrate the lives of these women as we grieve their lives. They’ll be missed terribly.”Even in loss, Sciano is quick to point out, while they will be celebrating the lives of these women, they are already looking to the others who are impacted. It’s what all eight of these women would have wanted.“We realize, we’re not the only ones,” Sciano said. “So many are suffering. We appreciate the love, the care, the concern from the broader community but we encourage everyone to support those who have lost loved ones and who continue to have economic issues and so many other things. We’re with them as well. We continue to do that as we struggle. Of course, it is difficult but for us, in the church, we’re celebrating the season of advent right now. It’s a time of waiting. It’s really a poignant time as we experience these losses, it’s in preparation for celebration. It’s letting go during the time of advent that’s much more dramatic at this time.”This story originally reported by Shaun Gallagher on TMJ4.com. 1913

that "multiple hogs" assaulted Rollins when she arrived at work, likely between 6 and 6:30 a.m., when it was still dark outside."In my 35 years, I will tell you it's one of the worst things I've ever seen," Hawthorne told reporters.Jefferson County Medical Examiner Selly Rivers determined Rollins was attacked by different hogs because of the various size of the bites on her body, Hawthorne said.Mature feral hogs can weigh between 100 and 400 pounds, according to the 471

So what do passengers do in this situation? Here's some advice on what you can do before, during and after your travel, to minimize disruption.BEFORE1. Pay for your flights with a credit cardYou often buy a flight pretty far in advance — and so the airline could easily be holding onto your money for a year or more. That's where paying with your credit card comes in handy, because buying a ticket with a credit card means you'll be more protected if your airline goes under. In fact, when airlines start to find themselves in financial trouble, credit card processors hold back a larger and larger percentage of the money until the flight occurs. That way, if the airline doesn't perform, the credit card company still has your money and can give it right back to you."Various countries have rules that make credit cards, not debit cards liable. So it's worth calling your credit card company and asking them," advises CNN anchor and aviation expert Richard Quest.2. Keep tabs on your airlineSo you might assume your airline's doing well -- especially if, like Wow Air, you could book flights right up until the last moment — but it's worth keeping tabs on the airline in the lead up to your flight. This is a particularly good idea if the carrier in question is a less well-known airline. Sure, you'd probably hear about it if Singapore Airlines was in trouble, but what about a smaller, regional airline? Keeping your eyes and ears open is crucial.Setting up a Google Alert could be a good shout, particularly if you're concerned and hearing rumors of difficulties.Of course, it's tricky when information isn't always forthcoming: in the case of Wow Air, passengers 1666

Shortly before Trump's inauguration, Smith was contacted about coming on board as an urban affairs and revitalization policy adviser, a decision that he knew would be controversial."He was well aware that he would be called an 'Uncle Tom,' " said one source familiar with Smith's thinking at the time. "He was willing to bear the cross at this point in his life. He sees the bigger picture."He's since been promoted to special assistant to the President for domestic policy, and in June, to special assistant to the President for legislative affairs. At the White House, Smith has been a constant presence on conference calls, briefings with journalists. And most recently at Trump's meeting on prison reform convened at his golf course in Bedminster last week and at his meeting with inner-city pastors before that.Smith called the meeting with pastors a "watershed moment" during brief remarks earlier this month and told the President it was "opportunity to learn about a community that has felt left behind for years."A Howard University graduate with a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in Divinity, Smith has more than a decade of experience on Capitol Hill, working in politics as an aide to then-Congressman Mike Pence when he was chairman of the Republican Conference. Smith later served as an aide to Republican Sen. Tim Scott.Scott called Smith a "significant member of my team" in a statement to CNN, citing his contributions on banking, tax, and social and conservative policy."I'm proud to witness his growth throughout his career in Washington," he said.Smith, during an appearance last year on the National Association for County Community and Economic Development's Holistic Housing Podcast, said his life in politics "wasn't anything I planned."But his upbringing in a single-parent household in Cleveland in the 1980s launched his path to public service, Smith said."When I was in high school, I saw friends and people I love who started to fall off that ladder of opportunity and that has really inspired me to do something to be a change or represent the interests of people who can't really speak for themselves," he said.Smith interned for Oklahoma Congressman J.C. Watts, a black Republican, shortly after the 2000 election of George W. Bush. It was there that he discovered his conservative leanings."Growing up where I grew up, Republicans were like a bad word," he told the podcast. "I had to learn what it meant to be a conservative. It really was, you know, cultivating individuality... Well that's what I'm all about, because I think everyone has talents and gifts, if given the right opportunity. And so that really led me on a whole pursuit of truth and figuring out what's the right way to revitalize and create opportunity for people." 2774
