SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Lego fans will have more to look forward to in 2019, as Legoland California plans new attractions in celebration of its 20th birthday.Among one of the park's 2019 offerings: Free admission for kids 12 and under on their birthday, starting in January."Having a chance to reflect on the last 20 years ahead of next year’s birthday celebration, it’s incredible to think about all we’ve accomplished during that time and the amount of kids we positively impacted through their experiences at the Resort," said park General Manager Peter Ronchetti.RELATED: Southern California theme parks ring in the holiday seasonAmong the new additions for 2019, Legoland said it plans to add new attractions and live shows for visitors to experience.One new addition will be a new attraction inspired by "The Lego Movie." The park will host special "Lego Movie" festivities from Feb. 16 - 17 and 23 - 24 around the park ahead of the attraction's opening.The park's resort is also getting a special zone geared toward toddlers modeled after Duplo. The play town will add an express train in the park and kids will be able to ride, slide, and hide in the interactive area.Also being added is a "Lego 4D-Officer in Pursuit" film that will play at the park's theater and new live character shows at the Miniland Stage.It's not exactly clear when the new additions would be opened to guests in 2019. 1458

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Just ahead of this holiday week, San Diego's Cross Border Xpress (CBX) unveiled new biometric facial comparison technology. The CEO of the sky bridge that connects travelers directly to the Tijuana International Airport told ABC 10News that it will further secure and streamline travel into the United States.The U.S.-Mexico border is still closed to non-essential travel because of COVID-19. CBX CEO Jorge Goytortua said CBX is still not encouraging people to travel right now but if they do, they can take advantage of this technology.“Within seconds, the technology will recognize the passenger in a [Customs and Border Protection (CBP)] database,” said Goytortua. He told ABC 10News that the comparison process happens only at a time and place where travelers are already required by law to verify their identity by presenting travel documents. Goytortua says that when a traveler arrives at the CBP processing area, he or she will have a photo taken at the primary inspection point. A CBP officer will do a review by retrieving the traveler's passport or visa photo from government holdings. The new photo will be compared to the previously collected photo.“It's going to be a hands-free process. It's going to be a much faster process,” he told ABC 10News.He added that CBX does not have access to the photos. Only CBP officers can see them. If travelers are still concerned about privacy, he said it's not mandatory to use the technology. “You can ask the officer if you don’t want to be processed like that then you will be processed the traditional way with your document read it on the scan. A CBP officer [will] research on their system and make sure that the person that is presenting the document is the one there in front of the officer,” he stated. 1790

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Last month, investigators arrested a 72-year-old man suspected of being the Golden State Killer. It could be the dramatic end of a four decades old search for the suspect.Which got us thinking, whatever happened to the cold case of the “Geezer Bandit” who may not even be a senior citizen anyway? And, could advanced technology ever help find him?He was the most elusive senior citizen during a two-year crime spree. The bank robber the FBI nicknamed the “Geezer Bandit” because of his geriatric appearance.The “Geezer”, who may have been a much younger person using a professional grade prosthetic mask, robbed 16 banks from San Diego to San Luis Obispo from 2009 to 2011. 11 of those robberies happened in San Diego County. “Profiling as you understand now is a pretty big spectrum,” says Jack Hamlin.Hamlin is a Professor at National University and professional criminal profiler. We asked him how this person, seven years later, has become the modern-day D.B. Cooper and why he, or she, would simply vanish.“We have an expression in law enforcement, we only catch the dumb ones,” says Hamlin.The “Geezer” was one of the best. Performing almost mistake free and seemingly very sophisticated. The mask may not have been his only disguise, and he was said to wear gloves, there was no known getaway vehicle, the robberies were during off-peak hours and with little security. And five of his robberies were on a Friday, payday. So, we asked the question, ‘Is it possible this person had some law enforcement training?’“It’s certainly somebody that understands how things work,” added Hamlin.  “These robberies weren’t random. He’s figured out a time when security is low; he’s figured out a time when there’s going to be plenty of cash, Friday.”The “Geezer developed a cult following with thousands of followers on Facebook. T-shirts are still available celebrating ‘Geezer Bandit for President.’ But his last robbery was December of 2011. That's the only time a dye pack was used, exploding and making the money useless, and possibly his disguise too. We haven’t heard from the “Geezer” since.“I don’t see this person suddenly having an epiphany and saying, ‘It’s over with. I don’t need to do it anymore,’” says a skeptical Hamlin.Hamlin says people like this need the rush and rarely just quit. But the one mistake the “Geezer” made on that final robbery was dropping a day-planner which he carried as part of his disguise. If it holds his DNA, Hamlin says there may be an option to use a genealogy website like investigators did to catch the person they believe is the Golden State Killer.“Now you’ve got this public DNA base, and if there is some way they can tap into that, um, the skies the limit on some of these cases,” says Hamlin.UPDATE: The FBI tells 10News there has been no change in this case since the last attempted robbery in 2011. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- If you are experiencing mental fatigue like never before, you are not alone. Many people who are used to forging ahead in times of crisis, like this coronavirus pandemic, say the feeling is unfamiliar. Emily Chandler of Vista says she never could have imagined her kids would still be distance learning in the fall. "This has been going on so long, and I'm just exhausted," Chandler says. Her three sons are in three different schools and her oldest, Timmy, has autism. Helping them all with school means studying up on things herself. Marriage and family therapist Serene Carruthers, of Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital, says what Chandler is feeling is tied to the seemingly endless nature of the pandemic."It really is because our body is built to respond to stressful events typically that last for a duration of a short period of time," says Carruthers. "Some experts call it surge capacity. Like a battery our adaptive system can provide us with the mental, physical and emotional power to survive a short-term emergency. Then it needs to be recharged which is easier said than done during a pandemic because for many people, their self-care rituals have been upended or canceled.""It is a very lonely time and I'm not getting that energy, that recharge," says Chandler. Carruthers says not to underestimate the power of play, which is free and can be done anywhere. She also recommends shifting expectations, maintaining connections with loved ones, keeping a gratitude journal about the good in your life, and exercising even if it's just walking in your home. Chandler says the reopening of her gym helped her feel like herself again, and she and Carruthers both say it's all right to ask for help, which Chandler says she's glad she did."I got on an anti-anxiety medication and I'm not embarrassed about that. It's really, really helped me," Chandler says.What has also helped is her boys have been troopers, making it clear that sometimes the biggest challenge can also bring the greatest joy. 2031
