HAVRE DE GRACE, Md. — Frankie Reeling’s life was reeling. A year ago, he was not expected to make it out of emergency colon surgery. There is Sally, Ooogie Boogie and Jack.Frankie said we are so trapped in fear during the coronavirus pandemic, that on his favorite holiday, Halloween, he would make sure we were howling our funny bone off.He comes up with a theme every night. HIROSHIMA, Japan (AP) — The city of Hiroshima in western Japan is marking the 75th anniversary of the U.S. atomic bombing. The Aug. 6, 1945, bombing was the world’s first nuclear attack. Three days later, the United States dropped a second atomic bomb on Nagasaki.Japan surrendered on Aug. 15, ending World War II and the Japanese aggression in Asia that lasted nearly half a century.Hiroshima was a major Japanese military hub with factories, military bases and ammunition facilities before the bombing. An estimated 140,000 people, including those with radiation-related injuries and illnesses, died from Aug. 6 through Dec. 31, 1945. That was 40% of Hiroshima’s population at the time. Hiroshima today has 1.2 million residents.Thursday, survivors of the Hiroshima bombing gathered in diminished numbers to mark the anniversary. They urged the world, and their own government, to do more to ban nuclear weapons. The coronavirus meant a small turnout, but the survivors’ message was more urgent than ever.Survivors want younger generations to learn their lessons while they are still around. As a girl, Koko Kondo had a secret mission: Revenge against those who dropped the Aug. 6, 1945, atomic bomb. She has overcome her hatred, as well as humiliation and discrimination.Kondo now is a peace activist following in the footsteps of her father, Rev. Kiyoshi Tanimoto, one of six survivors featured in John Hersey’s book “Hiroshima.” 1437

Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said in a CNBC interview on Wednesday that government-funded coronavirus vaccines would be provided for free or at an affordable cost for the American public.Azar’s declaration comes as the government announced on Wednesday an agreement with Pfizer valued at .95 billion. An agreement stipulates that Pfizer would produce 100 million doses of a coronavirus vaccine for the US government to distribute as soon as one is ready.President Donald Trump added on Wednesday that after an initial 100 million doses are distributed, another 500 million doses would be received by the US government soon thereafter.“Hopefully, the approval process will go very quickly,” Trump said about getting the initial batch of 100 million vaccines. “And we think we have a winner there. We also think we have other companies right behind that are doing very well on the vaccines — long ahead of schedule.”But questions on who would get the vaccine remains a question. But the government vowed Wednesday that vaccines would be affordable."We will ensure that any vaccine that we're involved in sponsoring is either free to the American people or is affordable," Azar said.On Tuesday, Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said in an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper that he is encouraged by multiple vaccine candidates, and believes that things are still on track for a vaccine to be ready for production around the end of 2020 or start of 2021.“I think the timetable that we have discussed now over the past several months, luckily and fortunately, has really worked out OK,” Fauci said. “The results of several of the phase one trials of different candidates, not only one -- I'm reluctant to point out one that's going to be better than the other, because the proof of the pudding is whether it actually works in the field and is a safe and effective vaccine.” 1950

Hillary Clinton told a receptive audience over the weekend in India that while she thought President Donald Trump played to some of Americans' worst fears, he does not reflect the country as a whole."No, we did not deserve that," Clinton said when asked if the US "deserves" Trump as its leader.Clinton called the 2016 presidential race the "first reality TV campaign," and said Trump, as a bombastic "reality TV candidate," was able to win over enough of the audience to win the election. And in comments seized on by the Republican National Committee, Clinton said she had won sections of the country with more economic output and attributed some of Trump's insurgent victory to a series of social and economic anxieties and discriminatory attitudes among his supporters."I won the places that represent two-thirds of America's gross domestic product," Clinton said. "So I won the places that are optimistic, diverse, dynamic, moving forward. And his whole campaign, 'Make America Great Again,' was looking backwards. You know, you didn't like black people getting rights, you don't like women, you know, getting jobs, you don't want to, you know, see that Indian-American succeeding more than you are, whatever your problem is, I'm going to solve it."Clinton said there is "the phenomenon of disappointment" about economic outcomes, particularly after the 2008 financial crisis, one of three main areas where she said she sees Americans' fears play out.Second, she pointed to "a reaction to advancing opportunities and rights for other groups," citing advancements for African-Americans, the LGBT community and women -- and said the third area was "the reaction against immigrants."As for Trump's conduct on the international stage, Clinton pointed to the President's "affinity for dictators," including Russian President Vladimir Putin. But when asked if the Russians have anything compromising on Trump, Clinton said, "We'll find out. Follow the money."She made clear later in the discussion that she did not know where the special counsel's investigation into Russian election meddling and possible coordination with Trump's team is likely to lead."Whether or not it affects him or just people around him, nobody knows," Clinton said. 2266

HAWTHORNE (CNS) - Southern California-based SpaceX will look to achieve another milestone late Friday evening when it attempts to launch the first test flight of its sleek capsule designed to carry astronauts to the International Space Station. The Crew Dragon, a stepped-up version of SpaceX's Dragon spacecraft that is used to carry cargo to the Space Station, is scheduled for to launch at 11:49 p.m. California time Friday from Cape Canaveral in Florida, propelled by a Falcon 9 rocket. The Crew Dragon mission will be unmanned, testing the new ship's capabilities and ability to self-dock at the Space Station.PHOTO GALLERY: SPACEX ROCKET LAUNCH LIGHTS UP EVENING SKYCargo-carrying Dragon capsules are usually captured by the Space Station's robotic arms and brought into the docking bay. The Crew Dragon is designed to dock and un-dock on its own.The Crew Dragon being launched Friday night will be carrying a sensor- laden mannequin, outfitted in a SpaceX spacesuit, along with about 400 pounds of supplies and equipment. The spaceship is expected to arrive at the International Space Station at about 3 a.m. California time on Sunday. The ship will remain docked at the station until about 11:30 p.m. Pacific time March 7, when it begins its journey back to Earth. It is expected to splash down in the Atlantic Ocean -- slowed by four parachutes -- about six hours later.VIDEO REPORT: No, it was not a UFO. SpaceX launches rocket into space off California coastAssuming the test flight goes well, SpaceX is scheduled to actually launch astronauts into space for a short demonstration flight this summer, possibly in July. NASA has already chosen astronauts Robert Behnken and Doug Hurley for the historic mission. Assuming no issues with that flight, two other astronauts -- Victor Glover and Mike Hopkins -- will later become the first humans carried by a Crew Dragon spacecraft to the International Space Station. 1929
