OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - The Rugby team at MiraCosta College has qualified for the National Championships in Pittsburgh.The Spartans Rugby program is in its first full competitive season, and due to the lack of Junior College teams in Southern California, they play a schedule that consists of NCAA 4-year schools.The MiraCosta Rugby team is made up of around 40 players, many of whom have backgrounds in football and wrestling.The team doesn't lack for experience, as a few players have been playing for over 10 years, like Ian Crilly, who says he's pleased with the team's progression."I've been playing for about 12 years now, so it was a little rough with these first year players. Trying to get them up to speed but we got there," said Crilly.The Spartans begin play in the National Championships on April 21, and win or lose, they feel all there success this season has put the school on the map for athletics. They hope their success will get more kids, both men and women, to come out for the sport.  1028

On a lake in Bedford County, Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency officer Darrell Bernd, who goes by the nickname "Bones," has formed an unlikely friendship with a wayward goose.While on duty in July, Bones found the goose tied up in fishing line, unable to get free. He freed the goose from the fishing line and brought it back to health. A co-worker gave the goose the name "Honk.""Thirty-four years ago I was hired out here just to mow grass," Bones said. "Now, here I am babysitting a goose."The best Bernd can tell, someone had Honk as a pet that imprinted on humans before the goose's owner turned it loose, unable to fend for itself in the wild.Ever since he rescued the goose, the two have been like birds of a feather, with Honk now following Bones around wherever he goes."I've actually had him following me for almost a mile," Bones said.Starting Wednesday, Goose has become Facebook famous, with his own page on the social media platform.As a wildlife expert, Bones is encouraging Honk to hang with his friends in the wild. Honk has begun spending more time with a flock of geese near Bedford Lake, sometimes gone for days at a time. Bones wants to get Honk used to the wild, so he can live on his own.But while Honk is still around, he and Bones are teaching us all something about what's good for the gander."Just a little act of kindness, that’s all it took," Bones said. OTAY MESA (CNS) - Authorities Tuesday released the names of a 70-year- old man and the two San Diego police officers who shot him in Otay Valley Regional Park in Otay Mesa when he allegedly pulled out a handgun that turned out to be a replica.Around 6 a.m. Thursday, Officers Jeremy Huff and Filip Perry from the Neighborhood Policing Division were in the park, near the 500 block of Beyer Way, to conduct an outreach and cleanup operation in conjunction with other city agencies when they encountered Carlos Soto, who was staying in an illegal encampment, according to Lt. Andra Brown of the San Diego Police Department."When officers approached the man, he produced a handgun," Brown said. "Officers gave the man commands to get on the ground.
