(CNS) - Authorities Thursday announced a ,000 reward for information in connection with the January stabbing death of a teenage boy during a fight in Chula Vista.Devin Griffiths, 15, was at a birthday party in the 900 block of Maria Way when a fight between two other teens broke out around 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 31, according to Chula Vista police.At one point during the fight, Griffiths -- who was not initially involved in the argument -- jumped in to help a friend who was being attacked by several young men, police said. My heart is crushed."Griffiths added, "When I saw my son the hospital, both of his hands and knuckles were broken open, which tells me he fought these guys. And I'm very proud of him and angry with him at the same time."Police have been trying to interview witnesses and other attendees at the party. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The City of Chula Vista is highlighting local businesses that are adapting to serving customers outdoors because of the pandemic. City officials started posting pictures on the city's Facebook and Instagram pages on Monday. Since Monday, they've highlighted barber shops, art galleries, restaurants and yoga studios. The city is calling them ABC, or Accommodating Business Champions. The plan is to feature a different business every day. Itaglo Pasta Bar was one of the businesses featured. Owner and Chef Alejandro Vicens says he was happy to see his business featured by the city. Like so many businesses, Vicens has moved everything outdoors to be able to continue to operate. The city says it plans to continue highlighting business that are moving outdoors. City staff also tells 10News they've been going around the city taking pictures of those that are doing things properly to serve their customers. On Sundays during the month of August, Chula Vista also approved for a portion of Third Avenue to be closed to traffic, so businesses can expand onto the street. 1111

CINCINNATI -- A preliminary investigation reports both technical problems and human error may have played roles in first responders' failure to locate a teen who was found dead of asphyxiation in a van parked in a high school parking lot Tuesday.According to documents from an internal review obtained by Scripps station WCPO in Cincinnati, the 911 operator who answered Kyle Plush's second emergency call said she couldn't hear him. Plush, 16, was found dead in a minivan near Seven Hills School hours later Tuesday night. In one 911 call, he said he was stuck in a van outside the school. In the second call, he described the make, model and color of the minivan where he was trapped and dying.Investigators don't believe there was a failure in the phone system at that time, so it's not clear why the second operator couldn't hear Plush. But the 911 operators' computers experienced trouble "around that same time frame," one of the internal documents states. The operator said her screen froze, preventing her from properly documenting the call. TIMELINE: What happened the day Kyle Plush died?Still, the operator tried sending a text message to Plush, asking him for the address of the emergency. She tried calling him twice, records show. He never responded.That operator's supervisors found her work in that incident was "unacceptable," according to one of the internal documents. Officials haven't said exactly where the officers searched. They tried calling Plush's phone, but he didn't answer. It was then that Plush called 911 the second time. "This is not a joke," he said. "I am trapped inside a gold Honda Odyssey van in the parking lot of Seven Hills. ... Send officers immediately. (KGTV) — Police have made an arrest after the body of a man was discovered in a bank parking lot late Wednesday.Chula Vista Police said 37-year-old Angel Padilla was arrested shortly before 12 p.m. on Thursday in the 300 block of Third Avenue.Police said a suspect matching Padilla's description was seen on security footage with a hatchet-type weapon near where the victim was found.The victim was discovered just before 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday behind the Bank of America located at 295 E Street.
