DUBLIN, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official Li Changchun said here Sunday that Beijing and Dublin have huge potential to deepen bilateral ties and cooperation.Since the two sides established diplomatic relations 31 years ago,bilateral relations have developed steadily, said Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, upon his arrival for a two-day official goodwill visit.Especially in recent years, China and Ireland have increased high-level exchanges, carried out fruitful and mutually-beneficial cooperation in various fields including politics, trade, education, culture and science and technology, and maintained close coordination on international affairs, he noted.Li Changchun (L, Front), a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, is welcomed by Irish officials upon his arrival in Dublin, capital of Ireland, on Sept. 26, 2010. Li started his official goodwill visit to the country on Sunday.Still, the two countries face enormous potential and broad prospects for deepening bilateral ties, Li said, adding that keeping a friendly and cooperative bilateral relationship based on mutual benefit serves the fundamental interests of the peoples of the two nations.The CPC and the Chinese government attaches great importance to the relations with Ireland and have consistently treated China-Ireland ties from strategic and long-term perspectives, he said.The Chinese guest said he expects to exchange views with Irish leaders on bilateral relations and major international and regional issues of common concerns.Li added that he will learn from the host country's experiences in promoting the economy and explore new fields and new ways to enhance mutually-beneficial cooperation for the common good of both nations.Ireland is the third leg of Li's ongoing four-nation tour which has taken him to Estonia and Montenegro. BEIJING, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- China's disaster relief authorities on Monday issued a national early disaster warning to gear up for super typhoon Megi, which is expected to batter China's southern coastal areas.The Ministry of Civil Affairs and the State Disaster Relief Commission, which agreed to activate the response, issued urgent notices to the civil affairs departments in the regions along the southern coast -- Hainan,Guangdong, Guangxi and Fujian -- to prepare for relief operations.Possibly the strongest typhoon to hit China this year, Megi, which means "catfish" in Korean, is expected to reach the eastern South China Sea around Tuesday midnight, bringing strong winds and rain to the four regions along the coast.The notices ordered local civil affairs departments to closely monitor the typhoon, take precautionary measures against possible geological disasters and flooding in cities, and ensure that people in vulnerable areas are evacuated on time.The 13th typhoon of the year, Megi is packing winds of up to 260 km per hour, making it the strongest typhoon to appear in the northwest Pacific since 1990 and the strongest typhoon of the year worldwide, according to China's National Meteorological Center.

NEW YORK, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi on Tuesday expressed hope that the four BRIC countries -- China, India, Russia and Brazil -- will further strengthen coordination and cooperation.Yang made the appeal as he chaired a meeting of BRIC foreign ministers in New York.Yang told his BRIC counterparts that the four countries have constantly enhanced their cooperation in a more defined direction and within an increasingly mature mechanism, thus increasing their influences in the international arena.He hoped that the four countries will further strengthen coordination, build a solid foundation for cooperation and broaden areas of cooperation so as to uphold the common interests of developing countries.The foreign ministers held discussions over issues including cooperation among emerging market countries, the reform of the international financial architecture and global economic governance as well as international development cooperation.The meeting was held on the sidelines of the UN high-level meeting on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which began Monday.On Tuesday, the Chinese foreign minister also held a bilateral meeting with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov.Yang told Lavrov that frequent contacts at high-levels between China and Russia have fully demonstrated the high standard of Sino- Russian strategic partnership of cooperation.China hopes both sides will further enhance communication and coordination so as to elevate their cooperation in all areas to a new level, Yang said.Lavrov said that Russia is willing to work with China to deepen cooperation in all areas and strengthen coordination and cooperation on major international and regional issues so as to continue to move forward bilateral relations.

BEIJING, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Vice Premier Li Keqiang has said China would advance practical cooperation with the European Union (EU) in all areas.Li made the remarks Friday when meeting with a delegation from the European People's Party and European Democrats (EPP-ED), which is the largest group in the European Parliament.China hopes the two sides work together to expand common interests, respect each other's core interests and major concerns, so as to promote the China-EU relationship in a maturer and more steady way, Li said during the meeting.Since the two sides forged diplomatic ties 35 years ago, China and the EU had scored leap-forward development in bilateral relationship, which was exerting more and more influence to the world peace and development, Li said.Noting inter-party contacts constitute an important part of China-EU relations, Li, also member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said the CPC is willing to deepen dialogue and exchanges with the EPP-ED.Joseph Daul, chairman of the EPP-ED and also head of the delegation, said he is willing to cement inter-party exchanges with the CPC and push forward the EU-China relations.
