SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The growing concerns over the coronavirus are impacting the daily routines of people across San Diego. Some businesses are changing the way they do things. CorePower Yoga has dozens of studios across San Diego. Monday morning, the company sent an email to its staff and clients outlining several precautions. Chloe Delehanti works out at the Mission Valley location."I've lived through SARS and Swine Flu, and I don't remember it being this serious of a concern, certainly never getting emails from my gym, or travel alerts, so it's definitely concerning," said Delehanti. The email stated the company is increasing its cleaning protocols and reducing the use of props and physical contact between teachers and clients. "Obviously, I really like adjustments and having that component in class, but I think it's a good idea to be as safe as possible, considering that it is a really growing concern, and there's a lot of new cases," said Delehanti.A salon in Hillcrest is also changing the way it does business. Stylists at Brightside Barber will now have the option of turning away customers who appear sick. "From here on out, not to feel like you can't turn someone away, if they are visibly sick with a fever, coughing," said Angelic Corona. She's been in the business ten years and said she's never seen anything like this. "I was relieved, cause you know, in customer service, it's kind of always been the customer is always right, but in this scenario it's health and safety for everyone," said Corona. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Teenage cancer survivors from Rady Chidlren's Hospital celebrated an "unforgettable" event.The annual Unforgettable Prom brought teens battling cancer out for a night of dancing and celebration — a night many of the teens miss at school while they continue to fight illness. Now in its 13th year, the dance has helped teens take a moment to celebrate that special night in every teenager's life. And everything is covered: From dresses and tuxedos to entertainment, food, and decor, thanks to volunteers and the Friends of Scott Foundation, a local non-profit that works to provide emotional and financial support for children with cancer and their families.This year's theme, Avengers "Age of Heroes," honors Ryan Wilcox, a former patient and Unforgettable Prom King, who lost hist battle with cancer. "Unforgettable Prom" was started by Carmen Delgadillo, founder of the Friends of Scott Foundation. Degadillo lost her teenage son, Scott, to Acute Lymphostic Leukemia. From that loss, Delgadillo started the foundation to help other families in need of support during their own battles with cancer. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The addition of 536 new homes on a former golf course in Rancho Penasquitos won't clog the one road leading out of the neighborhood in the event of an emergency evacuation, according to a new city study. The city released the environmental impact reporter for Lennar's Juniper proposal on Wednesday. Lennar is proposing to turn the languishing course behind the old Hotel Karlan on Penasquitos Drive into 536 housing units for senior citizens, including 81 affordable. The project also includes a nearly three acre public park, a three-mile trail. The environmental document analyzes impacts such as noise and traffic. It also looked at how the additional homes would impact evacuations in the northeast portion of Rancho Penasquitos, a neighborhood with only one road in and out. The document said there would be a less than significant impact on getting out fast for two reasons - first, a wildfire that starts in the Black Mountain Open Space park to the west would be blown away from the site by Santa Ana winds. Secondly, the site is not prone to wildfire because it is protected by developed terrain. "As part of the EIR, a fire risk analysis determined potential impacts related to wildfire hazards from implementation of the project would be less than significant and the project’s Wildland Fire Evacuation Plan demonstrates that timely evacuation of the site is feasible and would be improved by the additional roadway and emergency egress connections provided by the project," said city spokesman Anthony Santacroce. Additionally, plans call for adding a road into and out of the Juniper complex from Carmel Mountain Road, with emergency access. It would add a traffic light and roundabout to Penasquitos Drive, and improve an emergency access road on the opposite side of the neighborhood. Still, a group of residents is raising concerns that the Juniper project, combined with another potential 350 on the hotel site, would clog the one road leaving the area. Junaid Razvi, who heads the Penasquitos Northeast Action Group, noted Santa Ana winds are unpredictable and has had to evacuate three times in the last 15 years. "To put it mildly, I don't think we're getting the whole picture here," said Razvi. "We are not nimbys. I think the development has to be sensible terms of density, the access, ingress and egress points."Razvi's group said it plans to meet with Councilman Mark Kersey in the next few weeks to air their concerns. In a statement, the councilman said he understands where they are coming from. "Given our region's history, I understand and share residents' concerns about wildfire preparedness," he said. "Nothing is more important to me than public safety, especially when it comes to fire risk, and fire safety will be a primary concern when I evaluate any development proposal that comes before the City Council for approval."San Diegans have until April 6 to submit their comments on the EIR. 2957

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Supporters of Poway Unified School District kicked off a campaign Tuesday night in support of Measure P on the March ballot, which would provide 8 million meant to be spent on facilities across the distict's 39 schools. This is the first time PUSD has asked voters to approve a bond since the infamous "billion dollar bond", which many critics call a debacle which taxpayers will be on the hook for for decades.“We have leaky roofs," Superintendent Marian Kim Phelps told 10News during an interview Tuesday. "We have rusty pipes. We have tile that’s falling apart. We have high schools that have sewage spilling up into the room.” Phelps says a recent study commissioned by the district reported that 63% of the school campuses will be rated in "poor condition" by 2023. She also says a bond is the best option because the state of California does not provide money for facilities.RELATED: Poway Unified brings students together in pilot program with new approach to special education“What most people don’t understand and realize is we don’t receive any funding from the state. And so we also are one of the lowest funded school districts in the county, so we do a lot with a lot less.” Phelps says she understands why taxpayers may be hesitant to fund another bond measure. The last time the district approached voters, the bond was passed by 2011. It was later revealed that because of the way the bond was financed, the 5 million loan would accrue 7 million in interest, meaning taxpayers are on the hook for nearly billion. The bill for that will begin to be paid in 2023 and continue for 40 years.Phelps points out that the entire leadership that approved "the billion dollar bond" has been replaced and that the new team has worked hard to repair Poway Unified's finances in recent years.
