SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) — U.S. Marines from Camp Pendleton joined troops at the U.S.-Mexico border in San Ysidro Thursday ahead of the potential arrival of a migrant caravan.About 1,100 Marines were deployed in support of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, according to 2nd Lt. Fredrick D. Walker, public affairs officer for Special Purpose Marine Ground Force Task 7.Specifically, Marines were working alongside 93rd Military Police Battalion soldiers from Fort Bliss, Texas, to harden fencing in the area to "make it less scalable," Walker said.10News live video from the border:The deployment is part of a larger effort to place troops at the southern U.S. border ahead of the expected arrival of a migrant caravan from Honduras. The operation was originally dubbed "Faithful Patriot," though that name has since been dropped.According to the Pentagon, there are currently 1,300 active-duty troops deployed to California in support of border operations. Overall, 5,600 active-duty troops have been deployed to California, Texas, and Arizona.Camp Pendleton and Miramar Air Station were expected to house troops in support of the border operations. (KGTV) - One of San Diego County's universities is among the safest campuses in the country, according to a new study.The North San Diego County college was named among the country's safest campuses by the National Council for Home Safety and Security, the school announced. Data used to rank schools is compiled using information by the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting and the Campus Safety Security Survey."Keeping our students safe is the University Police Department’s No. 1 priority," CSUSM Chief of Police Scott Ybarrondo said in a release. "There are enough stresses in college life, and worrying about your safety on campus should not be one of them. (KGTV) - Over 70 migrants from the central American caravan are now in CPB custody, making their cases for asylum, according to attorneys working with them in Tijuana. The attorneys say 49 people were taken into custody on Wednesday, starting the process that could last months. Ultimately, it will be up to an immigration judge to decide if their claims are legitimate.  There are three different groups seeking asylum. Newspaper reports called Feliciano's performance "disgraceful," and some called him a "hippie."Despite the controversy at the time, Feliciano was invited back to Detroit to sing the anthem 44 years later before a Tigers playoff game, where he received unanimous applause.Jimi Hendrix — Woodstock (1969)Prior to Hendrix's performance at Woodstock, it was hard to imagine the national anthem being played on an electric guitar. Even after her death, Houston's performance at the Super Bowl remains one of her most played songs.Jack Black — Los Angeles, 2011Black is most known for his slapstick comedy, so it must have been strange for fans of the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks step to the mic for the anthem in 2011.However, Black is one half of the musical duo known as Tenacious D, and showed off his pipes in the 2003 comedy "School of Rock." Whether or not the Staples Center crowd was ready for it, Black went out and delivered a stirring rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner."Jesse McGuire — 2013 NFL PlayoffsThough the national anthem is played and sung live dozens of times each day, it's not often that an instrumental version of the anthem is played solo.
