JINAN, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- China and the Republic of Korea (ROK)Tuesday launched a joint land and sea transport services in a bid to cut logistics costs and boost trade.Semi-trailers loaded with cargo can now be shipped between Qingdao, Rizhao, Yantai, Weihai, Longyan and Shidao in the eastern Chinese province of Shandong and Incheon, Pyungtack and Kunsan in the ROK.The service can cut transport time by 3.5 hours and reduce costs by 50 U.S. dollars per container, as trailers can be driven directly to customers without unloading and loading, according to the ROK's Transport Research Institute.The service is expected to boost the shipments of fresh vegetables, live fish and other fragile products such as glass and electronics.Gao Hongtao, deputy director of the Shandong Provincial Transportation Bureau, said that with continuous oxygen charging and temperature control, the service can increase by 10 percent the survival rate of live fish exported from Weihai to the ROK.The two countries would later allow trucks to be shipped, according to an agreement they signed in September. The ports might also later include locations such as northeast China's Liaoning Province, according to Ju Chengzhi, director of the international cooperation department with China's Ministry of Transport.This year marks the 20th year since the launching of cargo, passenger and container sea transport services between China and the ROK. China has become the ROK's largest trading partner, both as its largest importer and exporter.

ISLAMABAD, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Acting President and Senate Chairman Farooq Hamid Naek and National Assembly Speaker Fehmida Mirza visited the newly-launched Pakistan-China Friendship Center in Islamabad on Thursday.Naek and Mirza, with the company of Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Liu Jian, visited the friendship hall, conference rooms and other facilities in the center.They also toured a photography exhibition highlighting the history of the bilateral ties and an exhibition of masterpieces of the Chinese brush painting.In a message left on a guestbook, Naek viewed the friendship center as a symbol of the close friendly brotherly ties between the two countries. BEIJING, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government has ordered a crackdown on pirated videos of two Chinese New Year blockbusters "Let the Bullets Fly" and "If You Are the One II."The two Chinese movies are both big hits of the New Year movie season. "Let the Bullets Fly" has raked in over 400 million yuan (59.7 million U.S. dollars) in box office since its debut on Dec. 16, while "If You are the One II" has made 200 million yuan within five days since its release.The crackdown was ordered by the National Office Against Pornographic and Illegal Publications and the General Administration of Press and Publication "in order to protect and boost the development of China's film industry," a statement from the office said Friday.The statement said the crackdown is part of a half-year national campaign against infringement of intellectual property rights (IPR), which is underway.The two departments asked local market watchdogs to enhance market inspections to weed out illegal workshops producing pirated video products.

Hu's state visit is a very exiting and historic time in U.S.-China relationship," Huntsman told a press briefing on Wednesday.Hu will pay a state visit to the United States from Jan.18 to 21 at the invitation of U.S. President Barack Obama."It is the first time that the two heads of state meet when they represent the two largest economies...Their influence is derived from the world, not form a region," Huntsman said.The ambassador said it was noteworthy that over the years Obama and Hu had met 7 times and developed a "friendly, cordial and confident" relationship.He hailed efforts on both sides to build a positive, cooperative and comprehensive U.S.-China relationship, citing the high-level meetings like Strategic and Economic Dialogue, Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade as well as some cabinet-level visits like Defense Secretary Robert Gates' just concluded trip to Beijing.In a relationship that is as mature, direct and candid as U.S.-China relationship, there will inevitably be some areas of disagreements, Huntsman said."Divergences are largely outweighed by areas of convergences," he said.Ambassador said the United States and China would increasingly find common ground."As both countries are on the world stage, they will see a similar level of responsibility in terms of problems and deal realistically with the issues that confront the world, ranging from Iran nuclear issues and Korean Peninsula tensions to economic rebalance and climate change," Huntsman said.

GABORONE, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping said here on Monday that China is satisfied with its relations with Botswana.In a meeting with Botswana's President Ian Khama, Xi said the bilateral ties have developed steadily and fruitfully and that both sides have kept close coordination in the international arena.Xi, who arrived in Gaborone on Saturday for an official visit, noted that bilateral economic cooperation has maintained a good momentum in recent years, and Botswana has become one of China's vital partners in Africa."The Chinese side is satisfied with the development of bilateral ties," Xi was quoted as saying by a press release issued by the Chinese delegation.He said China values its ties with Botswana, noting that China will continue to enhance political trust, expand economic cooperation and strengthen people-to-people and cultural exchange with Botswana."I believe the China-Botswana friendly cooperation is sure to have a promising future," he said.The Chinese vice president also praised Botswana for its active role in the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, calling for joint efforts to push forward the smooth development of the forum.Botswana is the final leg of Xi's four-nation trip to Asia and Africa.
