RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Brazil's government has confirmed the first case of the new coronavirus in Latin America. The health minister said Wednesday that a 61-year-old man who traveled to Italy's Lombardy region has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. The man had begun to show symptoms compatible with the illness, like a dry cough, throat pain and flu symptoms, and so was tested for the virus. Since the illness began to spread throughout the world, Brazil and other countries in the region have registered dozens of suspected cases, all of which previously had been discarded. With this South American case, the virus has now been reported in every continent except Antarctica. 695

TAMPA, Fla. — An unknown suspect targeted a South Tampa yard sale, benefiting a good cause, with phony money. Katherine, who asked us not to share her full name, was hosting a fundraiser Saturday for her teenage niece, who is in need of a new kidney. "I love her and we did this as an effort to raise money for her so she can get the transplant and it would be less money out of her family’s pocket," said Katherine. Katherine says one man came by the yard sale and talked her down in price for a pair of designer purses and an original painting from Haiti, where she was previously deployed in the military. Turns out, a bill was bogus, handed to her in a peculiar way as to not reveal that it was counterfeit. 730
SAN FRANCISCO — Federal and state officials in California were preparing Monday to receive thousands of people from a cruise ship that was idling off the coast of San Francisco with at least 21 people aboard infected with the coronavirus. The ship docked around midday Monday as officials prepared to begin to slowly disembark passengers and crew. The process could take several days. Fences were being installed at an 11-acre site at the Port of Oakland, as authorities readied flights and buses to whisk the more than 2,000 passengers aboard the Grand Princess to military bases or their home countries for a 14-day quarantine. There are more than 3,500 passengers on the ship, who hail from 54 countries. Questions have surrounded the cruise ship since reports surfaced last week that one person had died of COVID-19 aboard the ship. After the cases of the virus were concerned, the ship has attempted to quarantine passengers in their rooms and asked the passengers to practice "social distancing" by standing about six feet away from each other.Princess Cruises also operated the Diamond Princess, a ship that was moored for weeks in February off the coast of Japan after passengers tested positive for the coronavirus. Ultimately, about 700 passengers tested positive for the virus and seven people died. The quarantine practices used on the Diamond Princess have been questioned since passengers disembarked. The U.S. death toll from the virus reached at least 21 and the number of cases worldwide soared above 110,000. 1538
See this bobcat? Notice its large teeth? Imagine the claws within its big paws. A #ColoradoSprings woman picked up this injured wild cat and put it in her car where her child was seated! NEVER PICK UP WILD ANIMALS. She was lucky. Please call @COParksWildlife and let us handle. pic.twitter.com/ZbhlnmRwdH— CPW SE Region (@CPW_SE) September 19, 2019 360
