SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Siblings are frantically searching for their missing mother, after she walked out of Hospital Angeles in Tijuana Friday afternoon, according to her family.Jessica Puente, 73, accompanied her daughter, Johnica, for a surgery. When Johnica woke up, her mother was gone. "First thing I was like where's my mom, where's my mom? And they were like we don't know where she went," Johnica said.After questioning staff, a security monitor revealed Jessica walked out while speaking with the security guard at 11 a.m. Jessica asked the guard where to exchange money, Johnica said. She thinks her mom was going to find something to eat."We'll leave no stone unturned in Tijuana," her brother said Sunday night. He and their other brother flew into San Diego over the weekend, from their Seattle home, to help with the search."We tried to call the consulate but they're closed, we um called all these hospitals, we even went to the morgue, they went to the morgue this morning to see if there are any unidentified bodies," Johnica said they filed a police report with San Diego PD, passed out fliers in Mexico and have been using their connections to churches to spread the word.Johnica described her mother as shy, and says when she gets tired, she can get a little confused. She said her mother liked to dress up with flowers in her hair, jewelry, "her jacket and her shoes, she always liked to match, even though she's almost 73." Jessica is not only a mother of three, but grandmother to a little boy and girl, both under 10-years-old.When we asked how Johnica was able to stay so calm while talking about her mother's disappearance, she replied, "I don't know I just believe that she'll come up. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Several recent storms to hit the San Diego County region could spell disaster for erosion prone areas of the coast and inland valleys.Rainfall running over coastal bluffs with a history of erosion could increase the likelihood of future erosions along our shores. Adam Young, a scientist with Scripps Institution of Oceanography San Diego, says an active season already could led to more crumbling of local cliff sides following heavy showers."Pretty much whenever you have a new rainfall event, you'll pretty much see a new landslide ... The more rain we get, the more landslides," Young says. "Every time you have a failure, stress distribution can change."RELATED: Video: Bluff collapse halts train travel through Del MarAlong the coast, the potential is worsened by waves crashing against the coast. As waves erode the bottom of cliffs, rainfall running over the top can create more stress and instability, Young added."As long as waves are hitting the cliff, they're going to keep falling down," Young said. "At the beach, waves and rain work together to speed up the process."This month, Scripps researchers were surveying a Del Mar cliffside when a 55-foot-wide slab crumbled before their eyes — and on video."it's almost certain that landslide was caused by that rainfall," Young said refering to recent rains. "The state we're in now is because we had a bunch of rain. Any extra rain is a problem."RELATED: Researchers tracking crumbling Del Mar bluffsAt the beach, minerals in the cliff soak up water like a sponge, says San Diego State University Professor Emeritus Pat Abbott. Rainfall slowly moves through rocks, increasing the weight of the cliff and sapping its strength — until gravity takes over."That water is very slowly flowing through there," Abbott said of San Diego's coastal bluffs. "After the rain stops, several weeks later we'll be back to before the rain started. We're definitely not over."That's not to say inland bluffs aren't at risk. While rainfall helps speed up the process at the coast alongside waves, the risk remains further into the county as well.Inland, the minerals actually swell as it absorbs water, Abbott said, becoming heavy until, once again, gravity grabs hold.RELATED: Devastating 'ARk' storm envisioned for California by U.S. Geological Survey"When we go inland, we're talking about clay minerals. Think about a regular old book. If you took a paper book and dumped it in water, it would swell," Abbot said. "[Inland minerals] actually take the water inside their structure and swell ... they lose strength."Abbott pointed to San Diego's 1982-83 El Ni?o, which caused major destruction to inland communities as well as coastal communities."[There's a] high probability that these cliff collapses will continue at least through the rainy season," Abbott says. "We're getting to the place that it wouldn't be a surprise if we had inland landslides that affect homes." 2944

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego State University released its plan Monday relating to holiday travel during the pandemic. It comes as students are getting ready to travel home for the holidays in a few weeks.The policies apply to students living on campus and those with in-person classes.Roughly 2,100 students live on-campus, and about 2,200 students are enrolled in an in-person class or participating in on-campus research, according to SDSU. There is a crossover between the groups.Students living on campus can choose to stay on campus over Thanksgiving. Meal plans and other student services will be available during the break.Students who choose to go home and see family have an option. The plan says they “may choose to remain at home for the rest of the fall semester and complete the last two weeks of the term remotely.”Those that travel and return to on-campus housing will be tested for COVID-19 immediately upon returning and then tested again, five to seven days later.Those taking in-person classes will be asked to test weekly upon returning; they are currently required to test every 14-days. Those taking in-person classes are being encouraged to avoid holiday travel.The notice to students goes on to say:"Each of us must continue to be very thoughtful and careful, even if the effects of COVID-19 seem invisible or have not touched some of us personally. Several religious and spiritual observations are before us in the months ahead, and it is disappointing that we will not be able to celebrate in person many of our traditions with our loved ones in ways we have in the past.
