PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- On dueling sides of the street at Philadelphia’s Center City, supporters of President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden are facing off.“Stop that cheat!” Trump supporters yelled.The epicenter of the vote count in Pennsylvania has been the convention center in Philadelphia, where hundreds of thousands of ballots have been tabulated post-Election Day.“Every vote is sacred!” Biden supporters exclaimed.While there were no reported widespread problems in the state on Election Day, the nonpartisan group “Common Cause Pennsylvania,” said the state could do more to improve on this year’s election.The state legislature previously voted that election officials could not count early and mail-in ballots until Election Day, which delayed results from Pennsylvania. That would be something worth revisiting, Common Cause said.There were also some issues involving people being given provisional ballots – those are the ballots of last resort – when those voters should’ve been allowed to vote using a regular ballot. That was chalked up to an election worker training issue.On top of that, Common Cause Pennsylvania had reports of some people waiting as long as three hours to vote.“That's a barrier, right? People have to work and people have child care, elder care responsibilities,” said Suzanne Almeida, director of Common Cause Pennsylvania. “So, even though vote by mail took a huge burden off that in-person voting, which is fantastic, we're really excited about that, I think there's still more to be done to make sure that that process runs smoothly.”However, there are still a few outstanding issues in Pennsylvania, including those ballots that were post-marked on Election Day, but received after that day, through Friday of that week. PARKLAND, Fla. – The death penalty case against Nikolas Cruz in the 2018 massacre at a Florida high school remains in limbo.At a brief hearing Tuesday, no decisions were made on a trial date amid continuing obstacles because of the coronavirus pandemic. Cruz's defense lawyers say they have almost no access to him in jail, nor do defense experts they insist must see him to build a case."We're in a worldwide pandemic. It's just not safe to be doing that right now," said defense attorney Melisa McNeill in the hearing, held remotely. "All of that, unfortunately, is on hold."Broward County State Attorney Michael Satz said his office is ready for trial but added that they must await the filing of various anticipated defense motions. That is one of the issues interrupted by the coronavirus pandemic.Cruz, 21, is charged with killing 17 people and wounding 17 others during a Valentine's Day 2018 rampage with an AR-15 rifle at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.Cruz's court-appointed public defenders have repeatedly said in court he would plead guilty in exchange for a life prison sentence. The state attorney's office has rejected that, contending that a jury should decide his fate.Just when a trial may begin is anyone's guess.As time has gone on, things have changed. Satz, the state attorney, is leaving his post after 44 years. There are new candidates to replace Satz, including Democrat Harold Pryor who, if elected in November, would be the first Black state attorney in Broward County history.Pryor has not commented directly on the Cruz case but, in general, has said he personally opposes the death penalty. Pryor has the support of the county mayor, Dale V.C. Holness.His opponent on the Republican side is Gregg Rossman, a veteran former homicide prosector who handled some of Broward County's biggest murder cases. He is now in private practice.Broward County is one of the most heavily Democratic places in the country.Neither have said exactly what they would do with Cruz, as it's an ongoing case and they are not in office. OTAY MESA, Calif. (KGTV) - A vintage biplane had an emergency at a South Bay airport Tuesday, sending it skidding off the runway and onto its nose. The incident with the single-engine Stearman plane was reported at Brown Field Municipal Airport, 1424 Continental St. The pilot and one passenger were on board but escaped without injury, San Diego Fire-Rescue Chief Colin Stowell reported on twitter. The plane had minor damage. Stowell tweeted that the FAA and NTSB were notified about the crash to investigate its cause. City News Service contributed to this report. 575

PARADISE, Calif. (KGTV) -- More than a month after that Camp Fire, devastation is still visible in all directions throughout the town of Paradise. The Spirit of Liberty Foundation flew up from Carlsbad with Santa to help people forget for just a moment. Spreading smiles with gifts. For some at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds turned Red Cross shelter, the event was enough to bring them to tears. Half an hour away at the Pine Ridge Elementary School, young men in the California Conservation Corps handed out hats donated by the NFL. The Butte County Sheriff’s Office also joined in, handing out ornaments from the White House, more stuffed animals from the San Diego Zoo, gift cards and more.
