MIAMI, Fla. — Tropical Storm Laura is bringing heavy rainfall and life-threatening flash flooding over portions of the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Cuba and Jamaica, the National Hurricane Center said.ABC ACTION NEWS HURRICANE CENTERAs of the 5 p.m. update, Laura is about 50 miles south of Guantanamo, Cuba, according to NHC. MASON, Ohio — Kelly Ralston never thought she'd be a family secret.When Ralston started looking for her long-lost father, she discovered a whole family she never knew she had. They didn't know she existed, either.The 46-year-old found her father as well as two brothers and sisters after their DNA matched on Ancestry.com."I was already on Ancestry creating a family tree … so now I just have a few more branches," Ralston said.DNA testing services such as those offered by Ancestry and 23andMe have spiked in popularity over the last few years. According to CNN, AncestryDNA sold over 1.5 million kits just on Black Friday and Cyber Monday in 2017. The kits make it easier than ever for people to find information about relatives.Ralston barely knew her father; he was serving in Vietnam when her parents got divorced. He never told his next wife, their sons or his sister that he was married before and had a daughter."A lot of people didn't talk about what they did back then, especially if they went to war," Ralston said. "I was just surprised, since I actually met my father when I was 23, that he hadn't told anybody after I met him that I existed."Now, Ralston and her newfound family have embraced one another."I think we are all OK with it," Ralston said. "I think a lot of people might not be, but we're fine with it."Genealogist Kathy Reed warned Ralston's outcome isn't always the case. Lots of folks do their shopping on the internet these days, especially on Amazon. Not only because it's convenient, but you can find some great bargains. But wait until you hear how much a woman in Gallatin, Tennessee was charged for some paper plates. It was certainly no deal. Lorie Galloway said she does a lot of shopping on Amazon. She's a Prime member and told Scripps station WTVF in Nashville, "I don't order anything unless it's free shipping." Just before Christmas, Galloway bought some plates. Then her husband, Bob Galloway, got the bill."He sent me a text," Lorie Galloway recalled. "'What did you order at Amazon?' And, I'm like, 'What?' He said, 'Our bill is a thousand and something dollars.'"Now these plates she bought were not the kind you keep in a china cabinet. These were heavy duty paper plates. A hundred of them. Lorie Galloway said she thought she was getting for with free shipping. It turns out, the plates were ."But there was a ,080 shipping charge," Bob Galloway explained.It cost more than ,000 to ship a package of paper plates. "I mean that's just crazy for paper plates," Lorie Galloway said.And, her husband added, "I really thought it was some clerical error."The Galloways repeatedly tried contacting the seller and got no response. So they called Amazon about the charge."The reaction from the customer service representative at Amazon was, 'Wow, that's ridiculous,'" Bob Galloway said. So were these plates coming from somewhere half way around the world? No, according to the paperwork, they were shipped by UPS from Atlanta. Amazon eventually agreed to open an investigation and the company told Lorie Galloway they'd determined she  was "not overcharged for the transaction."Lorie Galloway said she believed she was overcharged. According to Amazon, the seller said they'd "sent the plates with expedited service," that Lorie Galloway had selected that option when she placed her order and had agreed to the ,000+ shipping fee, something Galloway insists isn't true. "If it would have said a thousand and something dollars, I would have noticed that," she said. If you try finding the seller now who sold Lorie Galloway those plates, you won't. An Amazon rep told the couple the seller had been dismissed after doing similar things to other customers. But Amazon refused to confirm that for us.And Amazon was asked why it didn't have technology to flag and even prevent outrageous charges like this, the company refused to directly answer the question and instead sent a statement saying, "Amazon is constantly innovating and improving our customer experience. If customers have concerns or feedback, we encourage them to contact our Customer Service."But that's what the Galloways did and Amazon told them there was nothing they could do. Lorie Galloway said she is now reconsidering where she shops. "If they [Amazon] are not going to take care of their customers, why should I order from them again?" she said. The Galloways spent the last couple of months disputing the shipping charge with their credit card company. Marine Sergeant Richard Murphy was missing in action for more than seven decades in a World War II battle on the Pacific front.Murphy’s amphibious landing craft got stuck on a reef and everyone had to abandon ship to get to shore. He stayed behind to help another wounded Marine."That’s when shell fire came in and blew up the craft and Uncle Richard and his fellow marine were never seen again alive," said Jerry Murphy, Richard’s nephew.Jerry and his cousin Jeanne Robinson’s DNA were used to identify Richard’s remains that washed up on the beach in Sia Pan in 1944. Jerry, along with his cousins, had never met Sergeant Murphy, yet the family bond is strong."It’s an amazing family experience it’s got us all here together," said Jerry.Sgt. Murphy had more than just his duties as a fighting Marine."Uncle Richard, in addition to carrying his pack as a marine and his M-1 rifle, had a typewriter with him because he was a war correspondent," said Jerry.Funerals are usually a solemn occasion."But this is a celebratory time,"Jerry said. "It’s a happy and upbeat type of event and so extraordinary."Robinson is Sgt. Murphy’s niece and never met her uncle but was well aware of his military achievements. "He was always with us. He was that handsome Marine looking out of the picture frame, he was that empty chair at Thanksgiving, he was always the person we heard stories about," said Robinson.And the man of those stories is home where the family finally could reach out and touch their uncle — a Marine, an American, a hero. One of Sgt. Murphy’s last correspondents home was to his mother. "He said, 'you know, I don’t want to die but I’m not afraid to die for my county' and that just makes us oh so proud of Uncle Richard," said Jerry.Sgt.
