CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) — Joining Oceanside and California state beaches, Carlsbad city officials announced Friday that they will close beach parking lots for the July 4 weekend.The city says that beach parking lots will be closed July 4 and 5 in Carlsbad, over concerns of crowds from counties where beaches are closed traveling to the region.Carlsbad's decision comes after a letter from the Governor's Office of Emergency Services and days after Oceanside instituted a similar beach parking closure.RELATED: Crowds flock to San Diego beaches for Fourth of July weekendEarlier this week, San Diego County Supervisors said they did not plan to mandate county beaches to close and would leave it up to cities to decide themselves."At the time of writing, beaches under the jurisdiction of local governments within San Diego County are the only beaches without visitation restrictions throughout all of Southern California, and therefore are attracting thousands of residents from outside your coastal communities and creating significant potential for disease transmission, particularly in crowded restaurants, bars, retail, and hotels," Cal OES wrote in a letter to the cities of San Diego, Imperial Beach, Coronado, Del Mar, Solana Beach, Encinitas, Carlsbad, and Oceanside. CARLSBAD, Calif. — A North County company says it's closing in on the technology to keep lithium-ion batteries from igniting.In the last year, the rechargeable batteries have caught fire in Teslas, E-cigarettes, and smartphones. The incidents led to an emergency ban by the Federal Aviation Administration prohibiting shipping the batteries on passenger planes. "The issue has always been there, but now I think because lithium is so prevalent, we're seeing increased cases," said Jenna King, chief executive of Carlsbad-based Amionix.Kings said the industry has largely focused on protecting the battery from the outside, such as through cooling systems and protective layers. She said the batteries ignite due to an overcharge situation or internal short-circuit. Amionix instead is developing what it's calling SafeCore, essentially a circuit breaker on the inside to keep the battery from igniting. "If your battery management fails, or it's never even active because it's an internal short within the cell, our technology is going to protect you," King said. King said Amionix is now working with companies across industries to make sure their product works with their technologies. She declined to specify the companies but said they are well-known. She hopes to have the safety product in consumers' hands by next year, noting that it's inexpensive to manufacture and therefore should have a negligible impact on consumer prices. 1445

Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Tatum announced Monday that they are separating after nearly nine years of marriage.The couple posted a joint statement to their respective Instagram pages."We have lovingly chosen to separate as a couple," the pair said. "We fell deeply in love so many years ago and have had a magical journey together. Absolutely nothing has changed about how much we love one another, but love is a beautiful adventure that is taking us on different paths for now."Their announcement also said that there are "no secrets nor salacious events" that led to the split.The couple first met while filming the 2006 movie "Step Up." CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) - A La Jolla man bought Carlsbad Fire Station 3 from the city and is making renovation plans so he can move in.Carlsbad firefighters worked out of the fire house on Catalina Drive for 40 years before moving to a newer, bigger station down the street in 2016."We kinda miss them because it was nice having them here, but I do think it's great that he's moving in," neighbor Diane Nogle said.Neighbors said the firefighters were a huge part of their cul-de-sac. Charles Colletti, the new owner, said they brought a cake to a neighboring girl's home on her birthday.Colletti said he bought the house for 3,000 to move closer to his daughter and grandchildren. Wednesday he walked through the home with a contractor, designing the future, "it needs a lot of work, the outside looks like a Brady Bunch house."Some of those proposed changes: new floors, new appliances, extending the kitchen, demolishing the fire chief's room downstairs, and moving the awkward bathroom in the middle of the floor plan.Colletti insisted he didn't want to take the fire station out of the house."I would love to keep some fire department, fire engine, stuff, memorabilia," Colletti said. "I was actually searching for a classic fire truck that I could potentially restore that I could keep here."Another selling point for him and a place that won't see much change is the garage.Colletti is planning on storing his classic car collection inside. Fourteen in all, including BMWs, Porsches, and Volkswagens.The only thing Colletti noticed that was missin: a fire pole. "We're considering installing one, just so when everybody asks me the question I can say yes, it does." Colletti said that's been one of his most asked questions. Colletti said he wants the station to continue serving the community, whether that's rescued pet adoptions with Second Chance, or bringing the firefighters back to the neighborhood."I'd love to reach out to them and invite them over to block parties because they're not that far away."Colletti will be moving in on July 15. He'll be staying in the garage while construction is underway.Colletti says he wouldn't have been able to buy the house without the help of his selling agent, Jenn Lynn, with Pacific Sotheby's. 2259
