EL CAJON (CNS) - A 49-year-old man was arrested Saturday on suspicion of fatally shooting a 31-year-old man in an unincorporated area near El Cajon.Daniel Christopher Allen, a resident of that unincorporated area, was booked into the San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of murdering James Owen who also lived in unincorporated El Cajon, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.The shooting was reported in the 6000 block of Stallion Oaks Road, southeast of Dehesa Road and northeast of the Sycuan Resort, around 10:30 p.m. Thursday, sheriff's Lt. Thomas Seiver said.Before deputies arrived, an acquaintance of Owen drove him about a mile and a half from the shooting scene, Seiver said.Deputies stopped the vehicle on Stallion Oaks near Dehesa and found Owen inside suffering from a gunshot wound. It was not immediately clear if Allen was the driver.Owen was pronounced dead at the scene, he said. 921

EL CAJON (CNS) - A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and killed in El Cajon, authorities said Friday morning.Officers responded to the intersection of Washington and South Orange avenues about 11 p.m. Thursday, where they found a woman in her 50s with significant head injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Lt. Jeremiah Larson of the El Cajon Police Department.An investigation determined the woman was crossing the road when she was struck by the vehicle traveling westbound on Washington Avenue, Larson said. It was unclear whether the woman was in a marked crosswalk at the time of the crash.Alcohol or drugs were not considered factors in the crash, he said, but no other details were released.The name of the victim was not disclosed. 771

EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- A standoff in El Cajon ended Thursday afternoon after a man barricaded himself inside an apartment. According to police, the incident began unfolding before 1 p.m. near the intersection of Jamacha Road and Dorothy Street. Police told 10News the standoff was sparked due to a domestic incident at The Grove apartments.Police could be seen blocking off the street as officers stood near their patrol cars in the rain. Neighbors watched in awe from across the street."We heard the cops say that he made a comment saying he was going to burn the apartment down," said Christina Messenger. The man shattered the glass of the windows several times from the inside the first floor unit. At one point, he poked his head out to yell at officers. "You just don’t know whats going on in there," said Sherry Quijada. "You don’t know whether hes gonna pull a gun out and start shooting. You don’t know what someone like that is capable of."Eventually, a K9 officer was sent in, ending the hours-long standoff. (KGTV) - The City of El Cajon is working to revitalize its main street, with the Magnolia Theater at the centerpiece of the effort.The theater used to be the El Cajon Performing Arts Center. In 2009, during the latest recession, the city shut it down to save money.Over the last few years, the city spent more than million to renovate the building and turn it into "The Magnolia."The building got new air conditioning and heating, new carpet, new seating and more modern amenities."We've rebranded it," says City Manager Graham Mitchell. "We have a new name, a new management company and a new way of doing things. There's a new philosophy of how we operate the facility."RELATED: East County Performing Arts Center to Re-Open as "The Magnolia"As part of the renovation, city leaders entered into an agreement with Live Nation to handle booking for the newly refurbished venue. Live Nation will provide up to 70 acts per year. The city will pay them a flat fee and then keep 100 percent of the proceeds from the shows.The venue reopened in October of 2019, and Mitchell says he's already seeing the impact it's having on the downtown area."My office is right across the plaza from the Magnolia, and pre-show, watching people spill into El Cajon, people that have not ever been here or haven't been here for a while, you can see the enthusiasm that this venue is building," he says.Business owners in the area agree.RELATED: Construction problems delay renovation of East County concert venueLupe Marrujo's family owns two restaurants on Main Street, the Downtown Cafe and Por Favor.
