(KGTV) - The Solana Beach City Council is the latest local government body to take up the gun control debate in the wake of recent mass shootings.On Wednesday night, the council passed Resolution 2018-036, which calls upon California Congressmen and women to pass gun safety regulations.Included in the resolution is official opposition to the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017, currently making its way through Congress.That bill would force states to honor Concealed Carry Permits from other states, regardless of how strict or relaxed each state's regulations are.Other parts of the Solana Beach resolution call for:- Raising the minimum age to buy a gun to 21- Banning the sale of military-style semiautomatic and automatic weapons- Banning the sale of high capacity magazines that hold more than 10 cartridges- Universal background checks- Mandatory safety training before buying a gun- A 10-day waiting period before taking possession of a gunYou can read the full text of the resolution here.The resolution makes Solana Beach the second city council in San Diego County to take up the issue. SOUTH PADRE, Texas — A Minnesota woman accused of murdering her husband before killing a Bradenton woman in order to steal her identity was arrested on Thursday in Texas, according to the US Marshal's office.Lois Riess was facing second-degree murder charges in Rochester, Minnesota in the shooting death of her husband, David Riess, in March. She then allegedly fled to Southwest Florida, where she befriended 59-year-old Pamela Hutchinson, of Bradenton, and targeted her due to their similar appearance. Investigators said Riess murdered Hutchinson in Fort Myers Beach, then took her ID and car and fled Southwest Florida. She was believed to have traveled through the Gulf coast states to Corpus Cristi, Texas. 766

(KGTV) — Video captured Friday showed another bluff failure in the Solana Beach area, weeks after a series of small bluff collapses.Kelly Nelle captured a small bluff failure at a site that appeared taped off due to a previous bluff collapse. No one was injured.Several parts of Fletcher Cove were taped off in August as sandstone tumbled about 75 feet down to the beach. It isn't clear if Friday's collapse was at the same site, but the area was already taped off and appeared to have a pile of sediment at the base of the cliff side.In late August, Torrey Pines beach goers were warned of bluff collapses after a section fell to the ground. In early August, a massive section of rock fell in Encinitas, killing three people.As temperatures rise and bring more locals out to the coast, officials cautioned visitors to walk 25 - 40 feet away from all bluffs and not to walk around barricades because large rocks could still fall.Video from Friday showed some smaller rocks falling before the larger section fell onto the Solana Beach spot. 1068

Several authors of a large study that raised safety concerns about malaria drugs for coronavirus patients have retracted the report. They say independent reviewers weren't able to verify information that’s been widely questioned by other scientists. Thursday’s retraction in the journal Lancet involved a report on hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine, drugs long used for preventing or treating malaria but whose safety and effectiveness for COVID-19 are unknown.The study linked the drugs to a higher risk of death or heart problems.
